¿Miedo o prudencia?

Miedo a que no te den prebendas, que te quiten las que ya tienes o que te manden al ostracismo borrando tu nombre de la mesa de invitados. Al miedo lo llaman ahora prudencia y mesura. Cuando anida en el interior de los cristianos produce efectos pésimos. El miedo entumece ideas. “El miedo es natural en el prudente, y el vencerlo es lo valiente”, decía Alonso de Ercilla. ¡No tengáis miedo!, gritó Juan Pablo II, ni en medio del mundo, pero tampoco en la Iglesia, un recinto para ensayar la valentía.
Cuando hay miedo es que faltan muchas cosas en la vida eclesial: confianza, empatía, cordialidad, frescura, amistad, verdad, perdón, corrección fraterna. El miedo no es exclusivo ni del clérigo ni del seglar. Anida en mitras, sotanas, capelos, cátedras, editoriales, hábitos, claustros, consejos, asociaciones y conventos”.
Aunque no soy el autor del párrafo anterior, sí que me identifico con él, y lo hago mío. Una de las cosas que más perjudica a nuestra Iglesia es el miedo: miedo a hablar, miedo a opinar, miedo a disentir….miedo a la libertad de expresión. Y todos esos miedos, y otros muchos, impiden decir la verdad. Se prescinde del diálogo abierto y libre, se calla lo que se desearía decir, se disimula la verdad y se oculta la conciencia. Y todo ello por miedo.
Me gusta esa frase de Ercilla:”El miedo es natural en el prudente, y el vencerlo es lo valiente”. Muchos disimulan el miedo, llamándolo “prudencia”. ¡Y cuántas cobardías se esconden en esa palabra!
El Papa Juan Pablo II, dejó dicho:“…la Iglesia, es un recinto para ensayar la valentía”. Si esto, que debiera ser, fuera, la Iglesia sería más creíble y sería más capaz de caminar con mayor cercanía al mundo, por caminos de humildad… y de verdad. Porque la verdad es la verdad, la diga Agamenón o su porquero.
