Entiendo por “lenguaje” los sistemas que emplea el hombre para comunicar a sus semejantes sus sentimientos o sus ideas. Esa comunicación se puede hacer por medio de palabras, gestos o signos, principalmente.
Para que el lenguaje empleado sea inteligible, es necesario que el que envía el mensaje y el que lo recibe usen los mismos códigos de signos y la misma interpretación de los mismos.
Todo lenguaje tiene por objeto la comunicación y el diálogo; pero, a veces, se convierte en “diálogo de sordos” porque, aún usando las mismas palabras y los mismos gestos, tienen distinto significado para unos y para otros. Cuando la Iglesia dice que quiere que nuestros jóvenes sean cristianos, ¿qué es lo que quiere decir? ¿Cómo concibe el producto final? Cuando los jóvenes aspiran a una iglesia más comprensiva y actualizada, ¿qué quieren decir? ¿Cómo entienden, también, el producto final?
La Iglesia, a pesar de estar en un mundo tan rápidamente cambiante, sigue usando el mismo lenguaje para dirigirse al mundo (el de una cultura greco-romana; el de la religiosa edad media; el de la filosofía aristotélico-tomista; el del Concilio de Trento, el lenguaje clerical y “eclesiástico”). Usa el mismo lenguaje para los jóvenes que para los adultos. No tiene otro, ni evoluciona. Con el Concilio Vaticano II se hizo un intento de cambiar el lenguaje; pero a penas balbuceó algunas palabras, le fue retirado el nuevo “chic”. Y volvió a hablar su propio y exclusivo lenguaje con olor a naftalina.
Pero el mundo ha cambiado mucho su lenguaje. Ha cambiado el sentido de muchas cosas; han nacido nuevas formas de expresión; las mismas palabras tienen distinto significado; se vive un mundo posmoderno plural, con todo lo que de ruptura y cambio supone en las ideas, en los comportamientos y en las expresiones,
La verdad se relativiza; la religión se constituye en un obstáculo para el progreso; surge con fuerza el individualismo y la conciencia subjetiva como regla de oro de la verdad y de lo bueno; se cuestiona toda autoridad; en el nuevo humanismo, el hombre reemplaza a Dios.
En medio de este cambio vertiginoso, la Iglesia (una buena parte de ella) sigue en sus “cuarteles de invierno”, temerosa de perder sus esencias, sus dogmas, sus viejas costumbres, que le dan seguridad.
No se atreve a dialogar con este mundo nuevo y distinto, para no correr el riesgo de tener que cambiar muchas cosas (¡las de toda la vida de Dios!) Y de esta forma deja de ser creíble; deja de interesar; deja de constituirse en interlocutora.
Y, a pesar de tener tanto y tan bueno que decir, no se le escucha porque lo dice mal; o porque usa un lenguaje arcaico, es decir:
- Palabras hace tiempo en desuso, en una nueva cultura
- Lenguaje de signos, vacíos y trasnochados
- Un miedo atenazante, cuajado de prohibiciones; inhibidor de la creatividad y la investigación teológica, litúrgica y catequética.
- La creencia de la posesión plena de la verdad total y la negación de verdad en otros campos del pensamiento o de la praxis; negación de la verdad en otras culturas, en otras religiones, en otras iglesias.
- Un estilo dictatorial del dominio de las conciencias, a base de normas y obligaciones, en detrimento de la libertad interior (libertad de los hijos de Dios)
- La puesta en escena de una liturgia muerta, fuente de pérdida de fe, o en el mejor de los casos, de su práctica.
- Un lenguaje “encadenado”, sin libertad, atrapado entre los barrotes de unas tradiciones inmovilistas, incapaces de una nueva creación. La Iglesia reza en el oficio divino estos versos: “Pusiste una herramienta en nuestras manos, y nos dijiste: es tiempo de crear”
Pero la Iglesia ha dejado de crear, para “recrearse” en lo que es y tiene, sin otras esperanzas. Y si todo eso es un fenómeno generalizado para una gran parte de personas adultas, lo es de una manera más descarada y preocupante, para el mundo juvenil.
En el mensaje del Concilio Vaticano II a los jóvenes, les dice: “La Iglesia mira con confianza y amor a los jóvenes”. Es posible que aquellas palabras de hace cuatro décadas, fueran sinceras. No hay por qué dudarlo. Pero hoy, al menos, no pueden seguir teniendo mucho de verdad.
