Historia de una bicicleta
Me contaron hace unos días esta historia que traemos ahora al blog. Y 
me resultó tan hermosa que pedí a su protagonista que la pusiera por escrito. Estas pequeñas historias construyen un mundo un poquito mejor. Nos ensanchan por dentro y nos llenan de esperanza. Es verdad, hay mucho por hacer, pero hay tantos pequeños gestos… como el de la bicicleta, que transforman e interpelan más al que la da que a los que la reciben.
Ya no la quería. De eso se trata.
Me la compré creyendo que con ella iba a dar esos paseos idílicos de primavera, con o sin buena compañía, y resulta que la realidad es completamente diferente al final.
El trabajo, el cansancio, la desmotivación, la edad, ¿qué sé yo?, cada vez me hacían aparcarla más en el rincón del patio. Y del patio pasó al rincón del olvido de la azotea. Le compré una funda impermeable para la lluvia, por aquello de que no se estropeara mucho. Luego estuvo otra larga temporada en una de las habitaciones vacía, para que estuviera bajo techo mientras me llegaba el impulso de cogerla para hacer algo de deporte. Y por último, bajó de nuevo al patio. Y no la utilizaba. Ese uso que creía que le iba a dar no llegaba. Y cada vez que la veía más me incomodaba verla y más sentimiento de culpabilidad tenía.
Llegué incluso a querer venderla, pero ¿quién iba a querer comprar una bici, ni nueva ni tampoco vieja, si hoy en día casi las dan regaladas en los centros comerciales?
Mi mujer suele pasar, de camino al trabajo, por una zona donde acampan africanos en solares vacíos. Describir su situación es fácil, sólo hay que poner la tele un rato y ver cómo sobreviven los inmigrantes en muchas de nuestras provincias, pueblos y ciudades. Lo que pasa es que estas personas en concreto ni siquiera tienen paredes que les protejan del frío, ni habitaciones, sólo un suelo de cemento y un techo de vigas vistas del que cuelgan unos plásticos a modo de tabiques. De no tener no tienen ni para ir al “trabajo” en transporte público, pues para ellos sería un lujo difícil de costear. Por eso, apoyadas sobre una cancela, alguna que otra bici algo destartalada sí que se ve desde la carretera…
Comenta mi mujer a menudo que, por las mañanas, camino del trabajo, cuando pasa por allí, se cruza con muchos africanos subidos en sus bicicletas y no precisamente para hacer deporte como nosotros los españolitos, sino para ir en busca de algo de comida o algo de dinero con sus “trapicheos”. Se llegan a ver hasta transportando entre las piernas la bombona naranja de butano…, qué valor.
Y mi bicicleta muerta de risa en el patio.
De hoy no pasa. Abrí el maletero del coche y, tras revisarla un poco, inflar las ruedas, limpiarle el polvo, mirar el casco, la bomba, el bidón de agua y las alforjas, la metimos en él y nos fuimos a ese descampado.
Sentía miedo en el fondo. Nunca habíamos hecho eso antes. Presentarnos en un lugar de pobres no es costumbre de los que estamos bien situados en la vida. Pero lo hicimos. En aquel momento sólo había tres o cuatro chavales por allí haciendo no se sabe qué. Nos bajamos del coche y saludándolos se acercaron a nosotros algo sorprendidos. Sin mediar muchas palabras, porque el nerviosismo nos impedía hablar mucho, les dijimos que veníamos a darles una bicicleta. Ellos, con cara de incrédulos, nos dijeron en un español escaso que “vale”, como quien no quiere la cosa. Al abrir el maletero, uno de ellos abrió los ojos y la boca de sorpresa y conteniendo la emoción, que bien se le notaba, me ayudó a sacarla para ponerla en pie. Les expliqué lo que la bici llevaba. Y lo único que les pedí como favor, en un francés escaso, era que la compartieran entre todos, a lo que los tres nos contestaron “gracias señor, gracias”.
No hubo más palabras, no hacían falta ya. Volvieron a “su casa” y uno de ellos, quizá el más joven, sin esperar a que nos fuéramos, se subió en ella y como si fuese el día de Reyes vimos que su cara era alegre. Nos dijeron adiós desde lejos.
Y nosotros en nuestro coche nos fuimos con nuestra emoción a casa llenos de preguntas sin respuesta. Todas empiezan con un ¿por qué?
Porque somos egoístas. Porque damos lo que nos estorba o sobra. Porque estamos ciegos o no queremos ver. Porque para que unos vayan en coche o moto otros tienen que empezar en la vida yendo en bici.
Deseo, tristemente y con esperanza, que con esa bici puedan ir en coche algún día. Como yo.
Son irrefutables las reflexiones del último párrafo. Porque, o se habla con sinceridad, como en este caso, o silenciamos que nadamos en la vergüenza.

Ojalá entregaramos mas bicicletas simbólicas a lo largo de nuestra vida en lugar de acomodarlas en nuestros hogares para acabar entregándolas al olvido y a la indifirencia…
