Llegar a “La última cima”
Por varios sitios me ha llegado el eco positivo de “La última cima”, esa película-documental que está teniendo tanto éxito con la publicidad del boca a boca. Algunos de los me habían hablado de ella me enviaron también algún correo electrónico con resúmenes y críticas. Por unas cosas y por otras, los días pasaban y confiaba verla ya en dvd.
También hace unas semanas, el programa “Últimas preguntas”, de TVE, entrevistó al director de “la única película que habla bien de los curas”, Juan Manuel Cotelo. Me dije: “Menudo personaje está hecho el director”. Sin embargo, me llamó la atención el impacto que un sacerdote normal había provocado en él. Parecía que estaba llamado a vivir de una manera diferente a la que había tenido hasta ahora. Además, aunque Cotelo resulta un tanto teatral, algunas de sus afirmaciones no andan demasiado desencaminadas: “Si crucifico a un sacerdote, me darán premios. Si hablo bien, me crucificarán a mí”.
A lo que iba, por fin, ayer domingo, con un grupo de adultos de la parroquia, pude disfrutar en Cádiz –porque se hace hincapié en la alegría- de la historia de Pablo Domínguez, un sacerdote con 42 años que muere en el Moncayo junto a Sara, otra aficionada a la montaña. (Conviene ir al cine para esta cita con una buena compañía, para comentarla luego).
El documental se va desgranando a través de los testimonios de personas que conocieron a Pablo, con un montaje excelente: su familia, amigos, compañeros sacerdotes, obispos, alumnos… “No hay ningún sacerdote que me haya convencido”, “es un corpúsculo ingrato”, “existen buenos sacerdotes, gente inteligente y cultivada”… Son respuestas que la gente de la calle, o sea el común de los mortales, piensa sobre los curas.
Hay una pregunta que me impactó: “¿Conoce a algún sacerdote alegre?”. Sencillo, directo, un test para revisar el propio sacerdocio (claro, para los curas esta peli es una auténtica evaluación de la vida y del ministerio, con una nueva metodología, en este caso, cinematográfica). Pablo, decano de Teología de la Facultad de San Dámaso de Madrid, era alegre, provocador, irónico, incisivo. No solía hablar mal de nadie, la palabra “maravilla” era la más registrada en su vocabulario. Sus amigos afirman que es “un cómico de Dios”. Sus consejos animan a seguir caminando: “No pasa nada”, “lo importante es levantarte y recomenzar”. Estar con Pablo es un regalo, hacía el tonto como un niño, contaba historias de la Biblia. “Hacía que te enamoraras del Señor”, afirma uno de los testimonios.
Pablo predicaba muy bien. Su misa de una estaba a rebosar. Sus homilías cortas y con un lenguaje del siglo XXI. Como a tantos curas nos ha sucedido, en el momento de la homilía, algún niño comienza a llorar. Pablo no se molesta. Al contrario, utiliza el llanto del niño para que la asamblea haga un silencio y contemple. El niño se muestra como es, sin caretas, transparente. “Así hemos de ser nosotros para ir hacia Dios”, subraya Pablo, para el que todo lo humano habla de Dios.
Hasta aquí todo bien. Aparece Juan Manuel Cotelo y nos sitúa de nuevo en la realidad: “El problema es que es cura”. Un cura que vive su fe en mitad de la jungla. Una jungla con sus códigos:
– Tú a lo tuyo.
– Aparenta más de lo que eres.
– Compra muchas cosas.
– Date prisa en disfrutar.
Pablo vivía en otra clave: la de la cercanía, la escucha, la disponibilidad las 24 horas. Cercano con todos. Es curioso pero su tesis doctoral, sobre los filósofos de la Escuela de Varsovia, se la publican en Ediciones Libertarias –con una estética diferente a la de un cura con alzacuello-. Sintonizaba con los pobres, que se sentían dignificados por él. No les importaba abrazarlos, ni llenarse de pulgas. Sostenía a la gente con su amistad. Evitó suicidios, abortos… Compartía la historia de las personas y hacía que disfrutaran esa historia, ahondando en su sentido y en su misión. E invitaba a usar la cabeza para creer en Dios.
A él, sin caer en el panegírico, se aplican hermosos adjetivos: brillante, atractivo, inteligente. Humilde, generoso y agradecido. Daba las gracias hasta cuando no tenía que darlas. Se preocupaba por la salud de los demás y no por la suya propia. “Tenemos poco tiempo y hay que hacerlo fructificar”, repetía Pablo. Multiplicaba el tiempo para ayudar a los que le necesitaban, quizá porque, como indica su hermano, “tenía más grande de lo normal el corazón”. Parecía que su ocupación principal era atender a los otros. “Un hombre por sí solo no puede actuar así”, sentencia otro entrevistado.
Y, de nuevo, Cotelo: “Pablo se dopaba con una sustancia prohibida: era consumidor, co-productor y distribuidor de pan y vino. Se comía a Dios”. Ahí está la fuente de la que bebió y para la que vivió. En su ordenación sacerdotal confesó: “Ya no me pertenezco”. Expropiado para Dios, con quien mantenía una relación especial a través de la oración y de su pertenencia gozosa a la Iglesia. Una Iglesia con una gran vitalidad, esperanzadora, luminosa, alegre, apasionada… “¡Qué pena que sea cura”!, de nuevo, el narrador Cotelo habla por el pueblo.
Pablo es muy aficionado a la montaña, a llegar a la cima, a la meta. La montaña tiene para él un significado místico, de la presencia de Dios. En el templo de la creación solía celebrar la eucaristía. Allí descubría la grandeza y la inmensidad de Dios. Desde la montaña contemplaba la inmensidad del universo. Aspiraba a estar en la cumbre, cerca de Dios. “Cuanto más alto se sentía, más gozoso por alzar a Cristo, cuanto más alto mejor. Necesitaba subir al Tabor, antesala del cielo”, destaca otro de los testimonios.
Muere en el Moncayo, una montaña a la que no había subido nunca. Ahí, naturalmente insertas, surgen las palabras de Pablo, de un retiro que ofreció a las religiosas contemplativas del Monasterio de Tulebras: “La vida es un tesoro que hay que dar a los otros”, “anunciar a Jesucristo es nuestra vida”, “la muerte es una puerta; lo importante es lo que hay detrás: la vida eterna”. Las últimas palabras de Pablo: “he llegado a la cima”. Ha corrido la carrera con decisión.
Y ahora, ¿qué? ¿Qué nos transmite la vida de Pablo? “Es posible la santidad”, “tú también puedes ser sacerdote”, “Dios está de tu parte, está empeñado en tu felicidad”, “un sacerdote está para servir al Señor, sirviendo a los demás”, “hemos de amar sin esperar nada a cambio”, “cómo actuaría Pablo en tal o cual circunstancia”…
Perdonad este post un tanto largo. Tomé muchas notas en la oscuridad del cine, en una pequeña libreta y quería compartirlas con vosotros. Termina la película. Se hace un gran silencio. Después comenzamos a dialogar. La vida de Pablo es un testimonio que va a lo esencial, a la hondura de su vocación y de su ministerio. No se queda en lo superficial –si llevar o no llevar alzacuello-, sino que afina en su sentirse volcado hacia Dios y hacia los hermanos. Quita estereotipos, mostrando la vida de alguien normal –no es Fundador, ni misionero, sólo cura…-. A quien no la haya visto, se la recomiendo. Seguro que en otoño “La última cima” será objeto de reflexión y diálogo en grupos parroquiales, colegios, en familia o con los amigos.
