– ¡Qué buena oportunidad para que los cristianos experimenten lo que es vivir con estrecheces (como las dos terceras partes del mundo)
– Y para que descubran el valor de la austeridad, frente al consumo desenfrenado.
– Y aprendan a dar valor a lo que no se puede comprar con dinero.
– Y a confiar en el Padre Dios, que viste a los lirios del campo…
– ¡Lástima que todo esto haya tenido que venirles impuesto por la avaricia del capitalismo, y no por el espíritu del Evangelio!

Descubrir el valor de la austeridad sería un buen antídoto contra la avaricia y el apego desmesurado a los bienes materiales.
¿Cuántos, y hasta qué punto, somos capaces de confiar en el Padre, que viste los lirios del campo? Decimos creer en la Providencia divina, pero, por si acaso, nos aprovisionamos bien de todo lo que podemos, para que no nos falte nunca de nada. Y así no puede actuar la Providencia.
La crisis actual no será capaz de enseñarnos a todos lo que significa vivir con estrecheces. Eso está reservado para los parados, o los de mínimas economías. El resto sufre una crisis relativa; y en cuanto la economía se rehaga a nivel nacional e internacional, volveremos a gastar sin medida, y tendremos la capacidad de olvidar pronto la situación anterior.
¡Lástima que la vivencia del Evangelio no nos lleve a esa necesaria austeridad, en solidaridad con los más pobres!
Otra cosa: ¿sabemos valorar, suficientemente, las cosas que no se pueden comprar con dinero: la amistad, el cariño, la gratuidad…? Cuando compramos algo para hacer un regalo a una persona, en la misma tienda quitan normalmente el precio. ¿Qué significa? Sencillamente que lo importante no es lo que ha podido costar, sino el regalo en sí y el cariño que hay detrás de él.
Tenemos que acostumbrarnos más a valorar lo que no es contable en dinero: lo sencillo, lo cotidiano, el calor del sol, la luz del día, la fidelidad en la pareja, la honradez en el trabajo, una caricia, una sonrisa…
