Tener fe, ¿es sólo creer en Dios?
Es claro que para hablar de fe, de una fe madura, no basta con aceptar una serie de creencias o verdades reveladas por Dios y propuestas por la Iglesia. La carta de Santiago, que os recuerda que “también los demonios creen, y tiemblan” (Sant. 2, 19).
Hay un librito de José María González Ruíz, que nos da una primera pista sobre lo que la fe debe suponer. El libro se llama: “Creer es comprometerse”.
Pues bien, el compromiso, es algo consustancial a la fe. Si alguien dice tener fe, pero no es capaz de que esa fe le lleve a unos compromisos con la misma, habrá que colegir que la “fe sin obras” es una fe inoperante y muerta, como dice el apóstol Santiago.
Otro aspecto o característica de la fe es lo que significa la expresión “fiarse de…”. Creer en Dios (o en Jesucristo) significa fiarse de Dios (o de Jesucristo). Si no nos fiamos, no hay fe. Y la medida de esa confianza, será la medida de nuestra fe.
Fiarse significa, a su vez, aceptar la voluntad de Dios, en todos sus términos y en cualquier medida. ¡Cuanto menos confianza, menos fe! Si de verdad creemos que Dios nos ama sin medida, tendremos que aceptar que todo lo que él disponga será para nuestro bien, aunque no lo podamos entender. Ya dice el Señor: “Mis caminos no son vuestros caminos”. Y el dicho popular lo confirma: “Dios escribe derecho con renglones torcidos”.
Creo que no es fácil (ni cómodo) tener una fe fuerte, bien cimentada, y madura. Y que es algo que se puede ir perfeccionando.
Los apóstoles se dirigieron, en una ocasión, a Jesús, rogándole: “Aumenta nuestra fe”. Y el Señor les contestó:”Si tuvierais fe como un granito de mostaza, diríais a esa morera: Arráncate de raíz y plántate en el mar; y os obedecería”.
En más de una ocasión tuvieron que escuchar los apóstoles las palabras recriminatorias de Jesús: “Hombres de poca fe”. Pienso que, seguramente, Jesús nos podría hacer ese mismo reproche a muchos. Yo no me atrevería a decirle a una morera que se arrancase y se plantase en el mar, porque no tengo fe suficiente para creer que eso ocurriría… y quedaría en ridículo. Pero no sería porque falla la propuesta de Jesús, ni porque la morera se resistiera a mi mandato. Es sencilla y llanamente, porque mi fe es más tambaleante, y no logro tenerla tan fuerte como para que se realice el prodigio.
La fe, se dice en la Carta a los Hebreos (11,1), es certeza de lo que se espera, y convicción de lo que no se ve. Certeza y convicción son dos palabras fuertes que exigen “fiarse” plenamente. Si surge una duda, por pequeña que sea, ya no puede haber ni certeza ni convicción. Y con respecto a la fe, suelen surgir no pocas dudas, que no no son faltas de fe, pero sí señales de una fe débil y poco arraigada.
La fe exige ser capaz de dar un salto en el vacío, sabiendo que los brazos del Padre serán los que nos acojan en caída. Pero hay que saltar. Es necesario insistir ante el Señor: Creo, pero aumenta mi fe. Porque la fe tiene más de gracia que de conquista.
