Desde mi atalaya
Cuando hablo de mi “atalaya”, me refiero a mi habitación, donde paso una buena parte del día, donde duermo, donde trabajo con el ordenador, donde escribo y leo. Esta habitación (mi atalaya), de 3 por 4 m. tiene una ventana que da a un patio con un pequeño rincón de jardín, ahora muy verde, después de las intensas y persistentes lluvias. Al patio dan las puertas de entrada a las diversas salas de reuniones y catequesis de la parroquia. Y una puerta que da acceso a Cáritas.
Estamos en las vísperas de las fiestas navideñas; se ha hecho una campaña de recogida de bienes, y ahora toca distribuirlos (comunicación cristiana de bienes). Las personas más necesitadas del barrio (este pobre barrio de gentes pobres) vienen a recoger su parte en el reparto. Hoy es el primer día indicado para tal menester, y la afluencia ha sido bastante numerosa.
Me asomo a la ventana, y veo a la gente que espera sus bolsas con cierta ansiedad, aunque saben que habrá para todos. Me da una cierta angustia, hasta vergüenza, poder ser simple espectador, y no tenerme que contar entre los que esperan su “aguinaldo”. No me atrevo ni a dar gracias a Dios por ser de los privilegiados. ¿Tengo derecho a serlo? ¿Por qué yo y no ellos? Y me avergüenzo nuevamente. Ahora sí le doy gracias a Dios, pero al mismo tiempo le pido por aquellas gentes, que no les da vergüenza ni reparo en pedir por necesidad. Me pregunto si alguna vez aquella familia de Nazaret se vería también en la necesidad de pedir. Y si fue así, pienso con qué humildad lo harían.
Según se van marchando con su carrito de la compra repleto, o portando en sus manos las bolsas del reparto, me doy cuenta de que la ansiedad se ha convertido en tranquilidad, y que una cierta felicidad (que durará muy poco) se refleja en cada uno de sus rostros. A mí me sirve de meditación. ¿Cómo se puede ser feliz con tan poca cosa, siendo tan pobres? ¿Sabría yo ser feliz siendo pobre como estas gentes? ¡Gracias, Señor, por no ser tan pobre, pero ayúdame a trabajar y gastarme a favor de ellos!
Me retiro de la ventana que me sirve de mirilla; pero mi pensamiento sigue con esas gentes. Me las quiero imaginar cuando lleguen a sus hogares, y empiecen a medio rellenar sus medio-vacías neveras, con el alboroto desbordado de los niños y jóvenes de la casa. Pero ¿cuánto tiempo va a durar todo eso en una familia numerosa?
Y siento necesidad de escribir algo sobre lo que he visto e imaginado. Y aquí está mi breve reflexión, para compartirla con vosotr@s, los que me leéis, esperando que unáis vuestra oración a la mía, en favor de los más pobres de este mundo, los de cerca y los de lejos. Que la Navidad rompa las desigualdades, y que la salvación aportada por Jesús, libere, ya aquí, tanta esclavitud. Sin olvidar que parte de esa liberación nos toca a mí y a vosotros irla consiguiendo.

También he sentido angustia y vergüenza en muchas ocasiones al tratar con personas que saben ser felices con lo poco que tienen, lo comparten, y piden cuando lo necesitan.
Me uno a esa oración, Félix. Ojalá deseemos vivir menos cómodamente para que todos puedan vivir dignamente, y que nos empeñemos en conseguirlo.
