Yo escogí la libertad
Hace años salió un libro autobiográfico, titulado “Yo escogí la libertad”, de Víctor Kravchenco, ex–miembro del PCUS. Naturalmente, no voy a hablar del susodicho libro, ni de su autor. Me valgo, sencillamente de su título para expresar lo que a continuación expongo sobre la libertad, querida y elegida. ¡Ojalá que muchas personas pudieran decir lo mismo! Porque hay mucha gente que vive en el miedo que atenaza; vive en la dependencia, que esclaviza; vive en la falta de libertad interior, que rebaja la dignidad.
La libertad interior, de pensamiento, de expresión y de acción, es un valor tan importante, que podemos decir que es la que permite que los demás valores existan. Ser libre o gozar de libertad es poder actuar o no, sin interferencias, sin presiones, con criterio propio.
Pero la libertad humana nunca es absoluta y sin referencias al otro. No es ilimitada. Se suele decir muy bien, que ”la libertad de uno acaba donde comienza el derecho del otro”. Pero aceptando este principio básico de convivencia y respeto, queda un espacio grande para ejercer la libertad personal.
No se trata, claro está, de hacer lo que uno quiere o se le antoja irresponsablemente, o a costa de los demás. No. Se trata de ser libre para tener los propios criterios, actuar sin dependencia, extraña a uno mismo, tener el valor de sentir y expresarse según sus principios y sus convencimientos.
La libertad tal vez sea la cualidad más propia y característica del ser humano. Ninguna otra criatura goza de ese privilegio. Personalmente, puedo decir que “yo escogí la libertad”. La he ido escogiendo con el tiempo, con los años. Me siento libre para expresar mi manera de ver las cosas, de juzgar las situaciones. A veces, esa libertad es incomprendida, generalmente por personas aferradas a la norma, a la costumbre.
Mi modelo (aunque a mucha distancia) es el mismo Jesús de Nazaret, libre como nadie, y también incomprendido como nadie. He dicho algunas veces que Jesús fue el gran trasgresor de normas, criterios, costumbres; incluso de cosas y doctrinas que su pueblo mantenía como sagradas. Tenía un corazón libre, sin ataduras. Sólo lo que creía ser la voluntad de Dios, no coincidente muchas veces con la voluntad de los hombres, de la sociedad, de la tradición, es lo que le hacía actuar.
Ser libre, es muy peligroso, es muy difícil; pero vale la pena estar a bien con uno mismo, con lo que el corazón te dicta y lo que la inteligencia te respalda. Desearía que la predicción del gran cantautor, José Antonio Labordeta, se hiciera realidad; así cantaba: “Habrá un día en que todos, al levantar la vista, veremos una tierra que ponga libertad”.
