La eucaristía como “parábola”

Es la parábola del pan y el vino compartido, que se transforman en “presencia real” de Jesucristo. Las parábolas designan una forma literaria consistente en un relato del que, por analogía o semejanza, se deriva una enseñanza relativa a otra realidad. Es, en esencia, un relato simbólico o una comparación. Podemos encontrar ejemplos de ella en los evangelios cristianos, donde Jesús narra muchas parábolas como enseñanzas al pueblo.

Sentarse juntos a la mesa para compartir la comida sencilla, o celebrar un banquete, son actos que se puede convertir de hechos cotidianos y vulgares, en signos de amistad y de compartir. Son actos profundamente humanos que van más allá del simple comer o beber.

El pan y el vino, que son alimentos básicos, son también signos de una necesidad de la persona que padece hambre y sed, y necesita alimentarse para poder sobrevivir. El alimento es signo de seguridad y energía, de salud y de vida. Ese es el significado de la Eucaristía (bajo pan y vino) y el valor parabólico de dichos alimentos en ella. En algunas culturas se considera al pan y al vino como un símbolo de vida y de inmortalidad; también como fuente de comunión. Todo esto es y significa la Eucaristía.

Por eso podemos afirmar que Cristo no eligió estos dos elementos al azar, ni por casualidad para que fueran símbolos de la Eucaristía. “El banquete, la mesa compartida, no es un acto individual, es una fiesta en comunión, que congrega a la familia, a los amigos, a los invitados, a la comunidad. La función material del banquete, aún siendo importante, viene superada por el aspecto simbólico y espiritual, que expresa la unidad, la comunión, la amistad y el amor, la alegría y la solidaridad” Por eso señalamos los grandes momentos de la vida con la reunión en banquetes o comidas rituales.  “La Eucaristía semanal o cotidiana es un banquete en la mesa de la Cena del Señor”.

Recordemos cómo aquella Última Cena que Jesús celebró con sus discípulos la víspera de su muerte, era también una Cena simbólica, en la que se hacían presentes los grandes acontecimientos de salvación del pueblo de Israel: salida de Egipto, paso por el desierto, la Pascua judía o paso hacia la liberación del pueblo…

La vida toda, incluso en las cosas más sencillas, está llena de símbolos, signos y parábolas. Y hay ciertas cosas que sólo se pueden expresar mediante signos, como son la amistad, la alegría, la tristeza, el amor. Los sacramentos, en concreto, no dejan de ser símbolos de otras realidades.

En la Eucaristía es necesario traspasar el signo para llegar al significado. Si no trascendemos la realidad del pan y el vino materiales, no podemos llegar al alimento del Cuerpo y Sangre de Cristo. Por eso decía al comienzo, que la Eucaristía es la parábola de la presencia real y misteriosa de Cristo, a través del pan y el vino.
