Domingo VII de Pascua
(La Ascensión de Jesús al cielo)
La fiesta de la Ascensión del Señor, era antes uno de los jueves que la sabiduría popular decía que “relucían más que el sol”, juntamente con la fiesta del Corpus Christi y el Jueves Santo. Se decía:”Tres jueves hay en el año, que relucen más que el sol: Jueves Santo, Corpus Christi y el día de la Ascensión. Pero ya no sirve el dicho, puesto que tanto el Corpus como la Ascensión han pasado a celebrarse en domingo.
En la recitación del credo, decimos:”subió a los cielos, y está sentado a la derecha del Padre”. Jesús ha terminado su estancia corporal en nuestro mundo. Su destino era el cielo, de donde vino. Estar a la derecha del Padre, significa ocupar el lugar principal junto a Dios Padre.
Pero antes de marcharse, le manda a los discípulos:”Id al mundo entero y predicad el Evangelio a todos”. Esa es la misión que Jesús nos dejó. Hermosa herencia que nos asemeja a él y nos hace partícipes de lo que él comenzó. Un gran privilegio y una gran responsabilidad.
El evangelista San Juan dice que los apóstoles se quedaron absortos y paralizados, mirando al cielo, y que un ángel les sacó del éxtasis inoperante, y les dijo:”¿qué hacéis ahí mirando al cielo?”. Era como una invitación a ponerse a trabajar en la evangelización. Ahora les tocaba a ellos. Hoy día, tal vez, sería preciso otro ángel que nos dijese: ¿qué hacéis ahí?¿dónde está vuestro compromiso cristiano? ¿No veis lo mucho que queda por hacer, que la mies es mucha, y los operarios, pocos?
El mandato de Jesús es para todos:”Id y evangelizad; comunicad la “buena noticia” de que Jesús está vivo, ha resucitado. Anunciad que Dios nos ama. Que estamos redimidos, que estamos salvados”; una buena noticia que hace falta que la conozcan todos, y todos la acepten.
La tarea es ardua y urgente; pero Jesús ha prometido su ayuda:”Yo estaré con vosotros todos los días, hasta el fin”. Esa es la gran esperanza y la gran confianza: no estamos solos.
La Iglesia ha comenzado; el Reino de Dios ha comenzado con Jesús, pero aún está pendiente de su culminación. Tarea que Jesús nos ha dejado como encargo.
La descripción que hace el evangelio hay que interpretarla de una manera simbólica. No es que Jesús “subiera” a ninguna parte, porque el cielo no es un lugar, sino una situación distinta: es estar junto a Dios; y Dios no está ni arriba ni abajo. Es una manera de hablar que significa que Jesús ya no está corporalmente entre nosotros. Su vida terrenal ya acabó. Lo mismo que terminará la nuestra, y tendremos la oportunidad de gozar de la cercanía de Dios. Nos movemos siempre en el gran misterio de Dios, pero también en la virtud de la fe y de la esperanza. Jesús murió, resucitó y está en el cielo. Nosotros moriremos, resucitaremos y esperamos estar en el cielo. Jesús es el Hijo primogénito del Padre, que nos marca el camino. El camino es toda su vida. Para nosotros el camino es seguir a ese Jesús.
