El payaso
Debo confesar que uno de los personajes que mejor me caen, que más cariño y ternura me despiertan, que me emocionan, es el payaso (los payasos en general). Siempre he sentido una especial atracción por este personaje de cara esperpéntica, de grandes zapatones, de ropa multicolor, de andares parsimoniosos y torpes, de voz cálida y gestos circenses.
Un personaje que tiene por profesión hacer felices a los niños y a los grandes; que arranca sonoras carcajadas, leves sonrisas y ruidosos aplausos. A mí, sobre todo, me produce admiración. Y ésta es tanta que ha habido épocas en que toda mi habitación estaba decorada con fotos, estatuillas y dibujos de payasos. Todavía queda alguno por las pareces o en la estantería. ¿Por qué esa admiración y cariño por los payasos? Difícil respuesta, porque los sentimientos no se explican, se sienten.
De todos modos, podría dar algunas razones o motivos. Su trabajo, su misión y su “hobby” es hacer felices a los demás, independientemente de su estado de ánimo. No cabe duda de que el payaso es una persona (posiblemente más sensible que la mayoría de las personas); y como tal persona habrá momentos en que las circunstancias de la vida le tengan triste, preocupado, desganado, cansado, depresivo, sin ganas de actuar… y sin embargo, sale a la pista, y nadie puede descubrir su sufrimiento, porque se entrega con toda sus fuerzas a hacer feliz al público (principalmente infantil). Se han dado casos de algún payaso que ha salido a la pista, después de darle la triste noticia de la muerte de su padre o madre o hijo. Y nadie ha podido sospechar su estado de ánimo, su íntima tristeza, su irremediable dolor. Con la risa o la sonrisa en su rostro, pero sangrando el corazón. Es un ejemplo de profesionalidad y de admirable temple.
Traspasando la realidad de los payasos, pero teniéndolos como fondo de reflexión, me centro en la vida de las personas, en su comportamiento social, cívico y relacional. Y me incluyo. ¿Somos capaces de tratar siempre de hacer felices a los demás: en la familia, entre los amigos, en el trabajo, en la vecindad…? ¿Somos capaces de no arrastrar nuestras preocupaciones y sufrimientos por todas partes, ante cualquiera que se cruza con nosotros? ¿Somos capaces de relativizar las situaciones conflictivas para no ser una carga en nuestro entorno? ¡Cuánto más fácil sería convivir, si fuésemos capaces de aprender del payaso!
Alguien ha dicho que este mundo es un gran circo, donde hay payasos y fieras. Pero lo interesante sería que hubiese muchos más payasos que fieras. La experiencia nos dice que, desgraciadamente, no es así.
