María, Reina de los confesores
Antes de hablar de esta invocación de María, en las letanías, quiero dejar claro lo que significa la palabra “letanía”. Etimológicamente proviene del vocablo griego litanueo que significa súplica o rogativa. Y seguimos.
La palabra “confesores” puede interpretarse mal. No hace referencia a los sacerdotes que imparten el sacramento del perdón (confesión). No.
Se llama confesores a aquellos que “confesaron” a Jesucristo a lo largo de su vida con una gran fidelidad. Vivieron con lealtad el seguimiento de Cristo y su Evangelio. Si es así, ¿acaso se puede negar el título de “Reina de los Confesores” a la que confesó su fe ( que es fiarse de Dios) con una firmeza y una constancia incomparablemente superior a la de todos ellos? Ella estuvo junto a Jesús toda su vida (era la Madre), y lo siguió no sólo en medio de los oprobios y tormentos de la Pasión, sino que subió generosamente hasta el Calvario con Él, para compartir el sacrificio de nuestra redención (por eso se la ha llamado “corredentora”).
Los apóstoles habían reconocido a Jesucristo como Hijo del Dios, pero al tiempo de la Pasión, no fueron suficientemente valientes para “confesar” su fe; la disimularon y escaparon. Incluso hubo uno que lo traicionó y otro que lo negó tres veces. No ocurrió así con María, que siempre, constante y fiel, lo reconoció como su Dios en todo el curso de su Pasión y sobre la Cruz. Y allí estuvo sufriendo con él.
En el lenguaje litúrgico de la Iglesia, se llaman, por tanto, “Confesores”, a todos los Santos que no fueron mártires. Confesores son los cristianos que profesan públicamente la Fe en Jesucristo y por ella están prontos a dar la vida. Confiesan la Fe por medio de su testimonio de vida cristiana.
Por el contrario, “mártires” son las personas que padecen muerte violenta por amor de Jesucristo y en defensa de la fe y de la religión. Mueren en defensa de la Fe y de la religión. Es necesaria una gracia especial de Dios para soportar el martirio; sin embargo, no se requiere menos gracia de Dios para sobrellevar una heroica santidad sin el martirio. El martirio se consuma, de ordinario, en un breve momento, aunque heroico. Confesar durante toda la vida a Cristo, requiere una postura constante, y, a veces, muy larga (toda una vida). El martirio, es un acto de amor y de fortaleza, y suple las demás virtudes que podrían faltar o podrían ser imperfectas.
En cambio, fuera del martirio se necesita mayor perfección de las virtudes teologales y morales; esto se consigue a través de una vida entera de lucha contra el pecado, contra el mal, y de sacrificio continuo. De tal manera que la vida de un santo puede llamarse un martirio continuo y constante de fidelidad.
Los santos confesores, tuvieron que superar toda clase de dificultades y practicar las virtudes en grado heroico. María es la primera, la más perfecta y la más santa de todos esos héroes de virtud y santidad, por eso la Iglesia la proclama: REINA DE LOS CONFESORES.
