(Camino, Verdad y Vida)
Comienza Jesús diciendo que “en la casa de su Padre hay muchas estancias”. Y luego afirma que se va a prepararnos sitio. No hay otro camino que el mismo Cristo. Si seguimos sus pasos, estaremos en el buen camino; si pisamos por sus mismas huellas, estaremos en el camino. Pero si nos desviamos del camino que nos ha marcado, erraremos, nos perderemos, nos alejaremos de esa morada que nos prepara.
Tampoco sirve el tratar de coger un atajo. No hay atajos; sólo hay un camino: el seguimiento de Cristo.
Pero, además, Jesús afirma que él es la verdad. El engaño no conduce a ninguna parte. Sólo la verdad nos hará libre, como dice San Pablo, para elegir el camino que conduce a las estancias de la Casa del Padre. Y esas estancias tienen un precio. Jesús nos ha adelantado ese precio con su muerte y resurrección, pero tendremos que pagarlo. Y sólo se paga con buenas obras. Lo pagamos en esta vida. Cuando Jesús está siendo juzgado por Pilatos, éste le pregunta:”¿Qué es la verdad?”. Pero no le interesaba mucho la respuesta de Jesús, porque nada más hacer la pregunta se retiró. Al que vive en la mentira, no le interesa la verdad, porque puede descubrir lo mucho de falso que hay en su vida. Sólo Jesús es toda la verdad.
Y, por último, Jesús afirma que él es la Vida. Él no es muerte, porque la muerte fue vencida con su resurrección. Jesús es Vida y da vida. Recordamos las bellas palabras de San Pedro, que le dice a Jesús:”Señor, ¿a quién iremos? Sólo tú tienes palabras de vida eterna”.
La inmensa mayoría de las personas viven atemorizadas por la muerte. Sea como fruto de una enfermedad, o como término de los muchos años, o de un posible accidente. La muerte nunca es bienvenida. Y, sin embargo, es comienzo de esa nueva Vida que nos une a Dios, y nos da la felicidad eterna. Hace poco ha muerto un escritor muy famoso y conocido (José Luis Sanpedro); él decía que la vida no tiene sentido sin la muerte, o que la muerte es la que da sentido a la vida. Si entendemos la Vida con mayúscula. Jesús es esa vida que se nos regala.
