No me gusta nada este aforismo; pero se usa mucho en el lenguaje, y además, desgraciadamente, resulta muy real en la práctica. No hay más que ver, cómo las potencias más fuertes, que desean la paz, se arman hasta los dientes. Hay otro refrán que dice: “el miedo, guarda la viña”. Cuando existe la sospecha o el miedo a que una potencia bélica ataque, otra prepara la defensa fuertemente para que el miedo a que tú respondas con más fuerza, la haga desistir. Y eso, propiamente no se llama paz, sino coexistencia pacífica.
Si una nación quiere poder vivir en paz sin que otra la ataque, se prepara bien por si es atacada. Y así no se produce el ataque. Por miedo a ser vencido.
He dicho que no me gusta nada esta expresión, por muy realista que sea, porque la paz no puede ser fruto del miedo, sino que tiene que ser obra de la justicia. Ya lo decían los latinos: “Opus iustitiae pax” (la Paz es fruto de la justicia).
Cuando no existe justicia, no puede existir la paz, porque las injusticias nunca producen paz, ni ninguna otra cosa buena o positiva. La justicia supone respeto hacia el otro; supone valoración de la persona, supone el reconocimiento de los derechos del otro, y supone algunas cosas más.
Hay personas que son “pacíficas” por su propia naturaleza, y respiran paz. Otras, sin embargo, tienen un espíritu belicoso, amigo de contiendas, que crea insatisfacción y malestar.
Sin paz no se puede ser feliz. Por eso en las Bienaventuranzas, pronunciadas por Jesús, se dice: “Bienaventurados (dichosos) los pacíficos, porque ellos serán llamados hijos de Dios”.
