Saber dar, sin saber recibir nos resta una buena parte de la alegría. La mejor manera de dar es recibir, porque se le da al otro, también, la oportunidad de dar.
Si dar nos produce tanta alegría, tendríamos que facilitar a los demás, la oportunidad de dar, y nosotros estar dispuestos a recibir, para que, también, ellos disfruten de esa alegría que produce el dar. Por eso, podríamos decir que esa frase de San Pablo:”es mejor dar que recibir”, la hemos entendido parcialmente: la hemos visto sólo desde la perspectiva del que da y no del que recibe.
Nos sentimos muy felices y contentos, cuando se nos ha dado la oportunidad de ayudar a alguien en sus necesidades, de cualquier tipo que sean. Se siente una especial satisfacción al ser útiles a los demás. A veces nos cuesta más ser ayudados; bien porque creemos que molestamos, bien porque somos lo suficientemente orgullosos como para no creer que necesitamos de nadie, y nos bastamos a nosotros mismos.
Y nos olvidamos de que, si el dar nos contenta a nosotros, deberíamos dar la oportunidad de que otros también se alegren dando. Y sigue siendo válida la frase de San Pablo, pero entendiéndola desde el punto de vista de dar y de recibir, porque cuando se recibe es porque otro ha dado.

Por tanto, podemos decir que “es bueno dar, y es bueno recibir. Y las dos cosas producen bienestar y alegría. Y lo mismo que ocurre en nuestra relación con las personas, debe ocurrir en nuetra relación con Dios. San Juan escribe en su primera carta: “El amor no consiste en que nosotros hayamos amado a Dios, sino en que Dios nos ha amado primero”.
Y, sin embargo, vivimos preocupados por manifestarle a Dios nuestro amor, y nos olvidamos de que lo más importante es que Dios nos ama. Nosotros damos amor a Dios, pero Él nos lo ha dado antes. Por eso Dios se congratula de que le amemos, y nosotros somos felices cuando Dios nos ama. Para poder amar de verdad, antes ha tenido uno que sentirse amado. De lo contrario, no sabrá amar. Se aprende recibiendo. Nosotros recibimos el amor de nuestros padres, familia, amigos, desde que nacemos; y por eso podemos amar a otros. Mª Luisa Olanier, le dice a Dios en una oración: “¿Qué puede ofrecer un pobre mendigo al rico que tiene todo, sino la ocasión de satisfacer su corazón procurándole el placer de darle una limosna?”
Sólo si aprendemos a recibir con sencillez podremos ofrecer a Dios y a los demás la alegría de dar. Mayor felicidad ofrezco al otro recibiendo lo que él me da, que dándole lo que yo tengo.
