Las pocas cosas que Dios sabe hacer
El ser humano (hombres y mujeres) sabe hacer muchas cosas. Y ejerce. Pero no todas ellas son edificantes y buenas. El hombre sabe amar, pero también odiar; sabe recordar y olvidar, sabe hacer gozar y hacer sufrir, sabe construir y destruir…
Pero Dios sólo sabe hacer una cosa: AMAR. Y porque sabe amar, sabe también perdonar, olvidar, crear, hacer felices… El apóstol y evangelista San Juan, dice que “Dios es Amor”. Y porque es amor, sólo sabe amar, y todo aquello que se desprende del hecho de amar.
El amor del hombre nunca es totalmente gratuito, por muy generoso y sacrificado que sea. El amor de Dios sí es gratuito y gratificante, sin mérito alguno de la persona amada. Por eso dice San Juan: “Queridos, en esto consiste el amor: no en que nosotros hayamos amado a Dios, sino que él nos amó y envió a su Hijo como víctima de expiación por nuestros pecados” (1Jn 4, 10).
El Dios que perdona, es el Dios-Amor; el Dios misericordioso, es el Dios-Amor; el Dios que salva, es el Dios-Amor. Porque todo él es Amor. Si crea, es por amor; si redime, es por amor; si se hace hombre y es ejecutado en la cruz, es por amor.
Pero las personas somos tan limitadas, que somos incapaces de comprender la grandeza de ese amor. Por eso Pablo, que algo vislumbraba, escribió acerca del amor de Dios: El amor de Dios sobrepasa todo conocimiento. Es amplio, ancho, alto y profundo.
Y Dios que es la felicidad plena porque es el amor absoluto, nos dice por medio de su Hijo Jesús: “os mando que os améis”. Es decir: os mando que seáis felices y hagáis felices a los demás. Pero esto sólo puede ocurrir por medio del amor. Sólo amando, y en la medida de ese amor, se puede ser feliz.
Existe una felicidad falsa y de muy corto alcance, que nada tiene que ver con la felicidad de amar y ser amado. Es, por ejemplo, la “felicidad” (¿) que puede dar la venganza, el poder, la riqueza… ¡Pero qué pronto se acaba y qué pobre es! Se hacen verdad las palabras del poeta, Jorge Manrique, en las Coplas por la muerte de su padre: “Cuán presto se va el placer”.
Y San Agustín se expresa así: “Ama y haz lo que quieras. Si callas, callarás con amor; si gritas, gritarás con amor; si corriges, corregirás con amor, si perdonas, perdonarás con amor.
Sólo amando se puede ser feliz de verdad, porque amar es encontrar en la felicidad de otro tu propia felicidad.
Si tratamos de amar, de verdad, a Dios, la oración nos resultará muy fácil. Porque como decía Teresa de Jesús: “rezar es tratar de amor con aquel que sabemos que nos ama”.
¡Qué fácil debe resultar a unos novios que se quieran de verdad, la conversación. Unas veces con palabras, otras veces con silencios, y otras veces, solo “estando”.
Esas son “las pocas cosas que Dios sabe hacer”: amar.
