“Nadie puede servir a dos señores: porque aborrecerá a uno y amará al otro; o bien, se entregará a uno y despreciará al otro. No podéis servir a Dios y al dinero”. (Mt. 6, 24)
Esos dos señores a los que no se les puede servir a la vez, según Jesús, son: Dios y el dinero. El amor a Dios, y el amor al dinero, no pueden darse juntos. Igualmente no se puede servir al mundo (entendido como lo mundanal) y a Dios. Tampoco se puede servir a nuestro propio orgullo y a Dios. Y tantas otras cosas que no son compatibles con el servicio a Dios.
Dios es uno, y no se le puede adorar juntamente con otros “dioses”. Los humanos (la mayoría) tenemos diversos dioses. A veces, nosotros mismos nos endiosamos, y quitamos parte de lo que le pertenece al único Dios. Hay muchas cosas que las convertimos en “dioses”; que las preferimos al Dios verdadero; que ocupan en nuestra vida un valor más importante; y que acaparan nuestro corazón, nuestros deseos. Y desplazamos al único Dios que debiera ocupar todo el espacio del corazón, de la inteligencia, de los sentimientos, y de toda la vida.
Cuando el tener y el poseer son prioritarios en nosotros, empezamos a tener “un señor” al cual acabamos sirviendo, porque nos recompensa materialmente. Y acaba esclavizándonos, y separándonos del Dios, Padre, Hijo y Espíritu Santo; el Dios de Jesucristo.
Quisiéramos jugar en la vida con dos barajas, que nos asegurasen siempre el ganar. Tener varios dioses, incluso teniendo al otro Dios, de reserva, para cuando hiciese falta. Pero Dios no es un comodín, para cuando haga falta usarlo. Eso sería manipulación; y al verdadero Dios no se le puede manipular. No es intercambiable como los cromos de nuestra niñez.
La finalidad de Dios para con nosotros, y la de los dioses creados a nuestro antojo, es totalmente distinta y opuesta. Y, aunque las apariencias engañan, podemos decir que solo el verdadero y único Dios, puede hacernos felices en esta vida y en la otra.
Si te dejas llevar de los caprichos, de las luces de fantasía del mundo, del placer, o de la comodidad, harás acopio de muchos dioses, que van a satisfacer tus apetitos, pero no crean paz ni felicidad. Todo es pasajero, dura lo que los fuegos de artificio. Y después, tu espíritu queda en soledad, porque nada puede llenar tu corazón.
El gran santo, Agustín de Hipona, decía: “Nos hiciste, Señor, para Ti, y nuestro corazón está inquieto, hasta que descanse en Ti”.
Dios es como un gran imán, que atrae todas las partículas metálicas, que somos nosotros. Y sería “contra natura”, que las partículas no se sintiesen atraídas.
