Qué difícil es actuar, y que a todos les parezca bien tu actuación. Ya dice el refrán, que “nunca llueve a gusto de todos”. Pero no deben influirnos las diversas interpretaciones de la gente. Lo importante es obrar en conciencia, tratando de hacer las cosas bien. Entonces: “El Padre que ve en lo escondido, te lo premiará”.
“Vio Jesús a un hombre, llamado Mateo, sentado en el mostrador de los impuestos, y le dice: «Sígueme.» El se levantó y le siguió. Y sucedió que estando él a la mesa en casa de Mateo, vinieron muchos publicanos y pecadores, y estaban a la mesa con Jesús y sus discípulos. Al verlo, los fariseos decían a los discípulos: «¿Por qué come vuestro maestro con los publicanos y pecadores?» Mas él, al oírlo, dijo: «No necesitan médico los que están fuertes sino los que están mal. Id, pues, a aprender qué significa aquello de: Misericordia quiero, que no sacrificios. Porque no he venido a llamar a los justos, sino a los pecadores». (Mt, 9, 9-13).
Esta es la pregunta que se hacían los fariseos: ¿Por qué come éste con pecadores? Ellos, ¡los puros!, no se mezclaban con los de mala fama. Pero vivían con la hipocresía instalada en sus vidas. Eran duros de corazón para con los más débiles, y exigían a los demás lo que ellos no cumplían. Jesús llega a decir: “Cargan grandes fardos sobre las espaldas de las gentes, pero ellos, no son capaces de mover un solo dedo” (Mr. 23, 4).
Jesús no se muerde la lengua cuando cree que debe hablar. No habla sin necesidad o por conveniencia propia, pero tampoco se calla cuando tiene que hablar. ¿Por qué come con pecadores? ¿Por qué se acerca a los leprosos? ¿Por qué defiende al hombre frente a la ley injusta? ¿Por qué? Y la resupesta la da, con sencillez y rotundidad: “Porque lo necesitan. No necesitan médico los que están sanos, sino los que están enfermos”. Y si esto no les parece suficiente motivo, les añade:”Yo no he venido a llamar a los justos, sino a los pecadores”, y aquello de:”Misericordia quiero, y no sacrificios”.
El templo se llenaba de sacrificios, ofrecidos a Dios (toros, corderos, palomas…). Pero él no es un Dios de sangre. El Dios misericordioso, quiere misericordia, compasión.
Cuando todo el mundo esté de acuerdo en lo que haces y cómo lo haces; cuando a todos les parezca bien, empieza a sospechar de que hay un fallo en tu actuar. Si quieres contentar a todos, será difícil que estés queriendo obrar correctamente.
No se debe estar pendiente de quién aprueba y quién desaprueba tu manera de actuar. Solo hay que pensar y tratar de descubrir si tal o cual actuación está de acuerdo con el evangelio, es decir, con Jesús.
Pero al actuar así, aceptamos ser criticados. Sabemos que lo harán, hagamos lo que hagamos. Recuerda lo que ya habremos dicho muchas veces: que no es más el discípulo que el Maestro. Y al Maestro le criticaron la mayoría de las veces.
Por otra parte, vemos, en el texto, cómo Jesús se dirige a Mateo, plantado junto al tenderete de los impuestos, pues era recaudador (mal considerado, porque esos impuestos iban a engrosar las arcas de los romanos). Jesús le llama: “Sígueme”. No le promete nada. No quiere que le sigan por intereses creados. Más adelante, cuando ya están más decididos a seguir a su lado, les ofrece ser perseguidos como su Maestro. Sólo uno se marchará, porque se había hecho ilusiones falsas; no había entendido eso del Reino.
