Tercer Domingo de Adviento
(…y los pobres son evangelizados)
Según el Evangelio, Juan Bautista estaba prisionero en la torre de Maqueronte, por orden de Herodes. Y le habían llegado ecos de lo que Jesús hacía. Naturalmente, la manera de hacer de Jesús era muy distinta de la forma de actuar de Juan. Y quería saber si Jesús era al que esperaban como el Mesías, a pesar de que él le había señalado, allí junto al Jordán, como al que esperaban y al que él no era digno de desatarle la correa de su sandalia. Se ve que la cárcel da mucho que pensar, porque hay mucho tiempo sin ocupación y mucha soledad. Y envió a dos de sus discípulos a donde estaba Jesús, para preguntárselo directamente.
La respuesta de Jesús a Juan es definitiva. No le dice ni sí, ni no, sino que les dice a los enviados que cuenten a Juan lo que han visto y oído.
Esto era lo que vieron, y las palabras de Jesús: “los ciegos, ven y los inválidos andan; los leprosos quedan curados y los sordos oyen; los muertos resucitan y a los pobres se les da una Buena Noticia”.
Todo eso son señales de la venida del Mesías. Ya el profeta Isaías lo había anunciado, y lo hemos escuchado en la primera lectura. Volvamos a leerlo para ver cómo el profeta Isaías, ochocientos años antes de la venida de Jesús, lo había anunciado: “los ojos de los ciegos se abrirán y los sordos oirán. Entonces el cojo saltará como un ciervo, y cantará la lengua del mudo”.
Para nosotros, la profecía ya se ha cumplido. Jesús, el Mesías anunciado ya vino, y nos dejó además de su recuerdo, su enseñanza. Basta con leer el Evangelio, para saber cuál fue el proyecto de Jesús para el mundo, para cada uno de los hombres.
Ahora somos nosotros los que tenemos que continuar el mensaje de Jesús: los que tenemos que hacer que se hagan realidad esos signos del Reino. Tenemos que ser sanadores. Hay muchas cosas que destruyen a las personas, cosas que necesitan sanación, y que no están al alcance de la medicina de los médicos: soledad, tristeza, necesidades materiales o espirituales, compañía, comprensión. Cuando todo esto vaya siendo habitual en nuestro comportamiento, podremos decir que el Reino de Dios comienza a ser realidad.
