¿Podemos imaginarnos cómo es el infierno?
Si ayer tratábamos de saber cómo es el cielo, hoy nos preguntamos cómo será el infierno. Y nos surge la misma perplejidad, aumentada. Sobre el infierno se han dicho cantidad de cosas a lo largo de la Historia de la Iglesia; muchas de ellas, ausentes totalmente, no solo de probabilidad, sino también de posibilidad. Recordemos las tremendas llamas de fuego, las famosas calderas de “Pedro Botero”, con aceite hirviendo. El demonio con cuernos, rabo largo terminado en lanza, y con un trinchete en las manos para fustigar a los condenados.
En los Evangelios se habla, con cierta frecuencia, de los poseídos por el demonio (endemoniados). Y modernamente se han filmado películas sobre los endemoniados y sus referentes exorcistas (por ejemplo: “El exorcista”). El libro del “Apocalipsis”, último libro del Nuevo Testamento, habla de la rebelión de algunos ángeles, capitaneados por Lucifer, que fueron arrojados del cielo, y fueron a parar al infierno.
Existe una amplia literatura sobre el demonio y el infierno. No obstante, y a pesar de que la Iglesia mantiene su existencia, sigue siendo de las cosas más discutidas, no tanto en cuanto a saber en qué consiste, sino, incluso, en cuanto a su existencia.
Se esgrimen argumentos o razones para negar la realidad del infierno. Yo creo que la más importante es la bondad de Dios, el Dios que perdona. Por otra parte, el texto de Apocalipsis, ya sabemos que tiene un sentido alegórico. -La Biblia no se refiere directamente al infierno, aunque hay muchas expresiones y tradiciones, que se han interpretado tradicionalmente como si se refirieran al infierno, aunque originariamente tienen otro sentido.
Repito que el obstáculo más definitivo que tenemos para aceptar la existencia del infierno eterno, es la bondad de Dios y lo difícil de poder conjugar su perdón y un castigo tan cruel. Nunca un padre daría tal castigo a un hijo…. Y menos, el Padre Dios.
