Respetemos las nuevas hojas verdes
¡Con qué facilidad hacemos leña del árbol caído! ¡Con cuanta frecuencia echamos leña al fuego, cuando lo correcto sería tratar de extinguir el fuego! A veces cargamos las tintas, en algunas situaciones de personas que se sienten caídas, porque han fallado, o porque la suerte se volvió adversa. Y, en vez de echarles una mano, o evitar una crítica demoledora que les puede hundir más, lo que hacemos es mostrar nuestra indiferencia o poner a trabajar nuestra incomprensión.
Cualquier persona, por rota que esté, es capaz de reaccionar si encuentra el clima ambiental que necesita: una palabra amable, una sonrisa abierta de acogida, una mano tendida, un poco de comprensión… Todo eso lo necesitamos la mayoría, si no todos. Pero para algunos, eso es vital; es el único medio para salir de una situación penosa, para hacer olvidar la derrota, para levantar el ánimo, para renacer de sus propias cenizas.
Hay unos versos de nuestro gran poeta, Machado, que ilustran lo que acabo de decir y nos ayudan a comprender que siempre puede darse la esperanza. Dicen así:
“Al olmo viejo, herido por el rayo
y en su mitad podrido,
con las lluvias de abril y el sol de mayo,
algunas hojas verdes le han salido”.
De cualquier árbol añoso y herido por el rayo o por el tiempo, le puede nacer una hojita verde, como signo y señal de que todavía queda vida. Y no habría que precipitarse para hacer leña de él.
Y en último caso (tal vez en primer caso), recordemos aquella “bienaventuranza”: “Bienaventurados los misericordiosos, porque ellos alcanzarán misericordia”.
Hay otras palabras en el Evangelio que no debiéramos olvidar en algunos momentos; como por ejemplo: “No apagar la mecha humeante” y “no acabar de romper la caña cascada”.
