Tras más de treinta películas en los últimos treinta años, en los que se ha hecho famoso tanto por el particular estilo de su obra como por los escándalos sentimentales que ha protagonizado, es justo acercarse a cualquiera de las películas de Woody Allen con el reconocimiento que se merece un artista que ya no tiene nada que demostrar. Y es que, al margen de las polémicas y de la simpatía que nos despierte (o no) el autor o el personaje que le ha hecho famoso, su cine tiene algo, y por eso pasará a la historia.
En Conocerás al hombre de tus sueños aparecen los mismos temas de siempre: el sexo y las relaciones de pareja, la muerte, el pesimismo existencial, el azar… Los personajes tampoco difieren de los que hemos podido conocer a lo largo de su filmografía: por un lado un escritor en crisis ante la falta de inspiración y su esposa, que siente que está desaprovechando su vida; y por otro un jubilado que se enamora de una mujer mucho más joven y su exmujer, que encuentra la seguridad que necesita convirtiéndose al esoterismo y demás “dogmas” de la new age.
El problema es que uno tiene la impresión de haber visto la película, de estar frente a un borrador de algunas de las míticas escenas que ha rodado y de tener en frente esbozos de los divertidos personajes que han poblado su filmografía. Por esto ya fueron criticadas algunas de sus últimas cintas, pero siempre nos regalaba algún momento hilarante a la altura de su mejor época. Desgraciadamente, no ocurre así en esta ocasión.
Como no sorprende se trata de una película interesante para aquellos que quieran detenerse a reconocer los rasgos propios del cine de Woody Allen, pero quienes tengan curiosidad por la obra de este director mejor que vean otros títulos primero. Ahora bien, porque Allen ya no tiene que demostrar nada, también es justo decir que su película más mediocre resulta más interesante que la mayoría de lo que suele verse por ahí.
