Comentando un cuadro
De la cabecera de mi cama cuelga un cuadro. Hace muchos años que me acompaña en los distintos lugares en que he vivido. Es el cuadro de “la Virgen gitana, con el Niño en brazos” (no sé si el título de la obra es ese. Pero esa es la imagen). Lo he contemplado muchas veces, pero nunca se me había ocurrido dedicarle un comentario. Hoy es su hora.
El fondo es de azul claro, para que resalte más la belleza de la imagen. Algunas nubecillas en blanco diluido, se reparten por un fondo discreto, que no deslumbra y pasa desapercibido, porque no es importante, pero realza la figura.
La Virgen Madre está tocada con un pañuelo que enmarca la belleza cándida de su rostro. Tiene colores más vivos, pero no es estridente, ni marca protagonismo. Una suave aureola, apenas perceptible, enmarca los rostros de la Madre y el Hijo, aclarando suavemente el fondo más oscuro. Es el signo de la santidad.
El rostro se ilumina discretamente, dándole un color más blanquecino. El pelo, que sale debajo del pañuelo, cae ligeramente sobre la frente, a ambos lados, dejándola suficientemente despejada y limpia. Los ojos, enmarcados suavemente por el oscuro liviano de unas ojeras, resaltan su mirada hacia el infinito, hacia el cielo; tal vez mirando a Dios, aunque le lleva en brazos.
Un color sonrosado, apenas perceptible, nimba su pómulo derecho, mientras el pómulo izquierdo queda oculto por la oscura sombra del pañuelo, que, a forma de capucha, cubre el resto del pelo, y resalta el pálido rostro, sereno como el agua de un estanque.. Lleva un manto, azul intenso, para no confundirlo con el fondo, recogido entre el cuello y la cintura, mostrando en sus pliegues la fina geografía de su cuerpo. El resto, tan solo se adivina, porque el cuadro corta, pudoroso, la esbelta imagen, dejando solo a nuestra vista, la parte superior, más noble y bella.
En sus brazos, reposando sobre el pecho materno, duerme el Niño, el sueño del descanso, tras la ingesta. Su carita de ángel de Murillo, semeja, sonrosada, la aurora boreal o el arco iris, y hace juego con un vestido blanco y azulado.
Los ojitos cerrados levemente, como si sus débiles párpados se hubieran inclinado sin esfuerzo. La boquita entreabierta, saboreando aún la dulce leche del seno nutritivo que apenas ha libado, como liba la abeja, de las flores, el néctar preferido.
Se distinguen dos manos desiguales. Una, la de la Madre, que sostiene la espalda del pequeño, que apoya su carita, de paz y confianza, en el pecho y la cara acogedora.
La otra es la del niño, apoyada entre el pecho y el hombro de su cuna. Nunca tuvo una cuna más mullida, más caliente y más segura, a no ser la primera que estrenara en el seno materno, nueve meses.
Esta es la imagen que preside mis noches y mis días, sobre la palidez de la pared, sobre la cabecera de mi lecho. Esta es la gitana que vela mis sueños por la noche, a la par que vela y cuida el sueño plácido de su gitanillo, y a la que dedico una mirada amorosa, antes de comenzar la noche, y en las madrugadas.
