El Mediterráneo, ¿un cementerio?
El Papa Francisco, en el Parlamento Europeo (Estrasburgo), ha dicho que:”No podemos convertir el mediterráneo en un cementerio”. Se refería, como es claro, a los emigrantes que tratan de llegar en pateras a un mundo de mayor libertad y mayor progreso; pero que, con frecuencia, en vez de llegar a las costas ansiadas, acaban hundidos en el fondo el mar.
Es admirable la capacidad de Francisco, para estar atento a tantos problemas, y estar, directamente, en la brecha de la denuncia a todos los niveles.
Es un ejemplo de cómo se puede vivir (muchas veces con dolor) los problemas del mundo, las exigencias de la sociedad, y las angustias y peligros de las personas más débiles (pobres, emigrantes, discapacitados, maltratados…).
Muchas veces lo hace directamente, sin intermediarios. Sólo cuando él no llega, se sirve de otros que lo hagan por él y según él.
El “mare nostrum” , así llamado el Mediterráneo en la época romana y bizantina, va engullendo ya a muchos que un día se embarcaron, llenos de terror (seguramente), pero llenos también (seguro) de ilusiones y esperanzas de supervivencia. Es un gran cementerio sin cruces ni mausoleos, sin flores el día de los difuntos, sin visitas nostálgicas de familiares o amigos. Es una fosa común, donde no constan nombres ni historias personales; muertos anónimos, a quienes solo lloran en lugares muy lejanos.
Pero ese mar que guarda en sus entrañas tantas ilusiones rotas, no es el culpable. Los hombres, sí lo somos. Unos porque no gritamos suficientemente la injusticia. Otro porque, pudiendo resolver el problema, miran para otra parte, por intereses inconfesables de explotación o de enriquecimiento personal o colectivo, y otros porque…..
Las vidas de tantos hermanos muertos, no claman, desde el abismo, la venganza. Nos gritan, sí, fraternidad, solidaridad y acogida. Eso que no tuvimos.
