Es molesto, pero muy beneficioso
Me refiero al llamado viento de “levante”, que azota una parte de la geografía andaluza. Aunque yo me voy a centrar en la bahía de Cádiz, y concretamente en la ciudad de San Fernando, que es lo que me afecta, por vivir en ella.
Con muchísima frecuencia, unos años más que otros, el citado viento de levante, hace presencia, con más o menos intensidad en esta ciudad. Todos lo tememos, porque es muy molesto. Entre otras cosas, dicen que afecta al sistema nervioso, y crea un cierto malestar de desequilibrio psíquico, que no es grave, pero sí molesto. En los niño se aprecia más que en los adultos.
Sin embargo, a pesar de estos inconvenientes, tiene claras ventajas. San Fernando es una isla, rodeada de mar, por tanto. Esto hace que haya una humedad muy grande, difícil de evitar. La naturaleza es sabia, y lo que te quita por un lado, te lo da por otro. Ayuda a secar, en parte, esa humedad.
La función del Levante es también limpiar las aguas de las algas que afloran tras los temporales de Poniente. Deja el agua totalmente trasparente y con una tonalidad aturquesada parecida a las playas caribeñas pero con el agua fresca para poder aliviar el calor.
Una de las coas que se ven afectadas en verano, es la posible asistencia a la playa cuando sopla el levante, porque la arena es arrastrada con fuerza, azotando las carnes desnudas. Si hay levante, no puede haber playa.
Este viento característico, suele ser más bien caliente, en contraposición del viento de “poniente”, que no suele ser tan fuerte, pero que es más fresco.
Por el contrario, el Poniente surge del Oeste y Suroeste; proveniente del océano. Generalmente es moderado, no sobrepasando los 50 kms por hora en el peor de los casos.
J.Mª Pemán, tiene una novela que se titula “Noche de levante en calma”, en la cual ocurren una serie de homicidios y desgracias, atribuidos al levante, cuando todavía no ha salido; pero, como dicen las gentes de aquí, está luchando con el viento de poniente, creando una atmósfera de gran electricidad, que afecta poderosamente a las personas.
