Tiempo de amistad
Me regalaron un libro en el que el Cardenal Amigo cuenta con un artículo que lleva por título: “La amistad y los amigos”. Al finalizar su escrito, D. Carlos subraya “una experiencia peculiar y especialmente grata de la amistad: la que tenemos con los santos”. Seguro que de un modo u otro todos nosotros sentimos en nuestra vida la compañía de los santos. En realidad nuestra existencia es un estar en comunión con la Iglesia del Cielo, con los que ya peregrinaron por esta tierra y viven plenamente la amistad con Dios.
Podríamos poner una larga lista de santos que van acompañando nuestro camino. Hace poco aquí mismo hemos hablado del P. Damián. Creo que aproximarnos a la vida de estos hermanos mayores en la fe puede ayudarnos en este tiempo de Cuaresma que comenzamos. En ellos encontramos ejemplos interpelantes de oración, sencillez, humildad, entrega a los demás…
Al tiempo de Cuaresma podemos ponerle un rostro: el rostro de los santos. Cojamos en este tiempo la vida de algún santo y dejemos que su estilo de seguimiento de Jesús nos interpele. Si nos tomamos en serio la lectura, seguro que hay algo en nuestras actitudes que cambiará para acercarnos a lo que Dios quiere de nosotros y a lo que nuestro prójimo necesita.
Benedicto XVI cita en su Encíclica “Spe Salvi” la singular vida de una esclava sudanesa -cuaresma es tiempo de liberación-: santa Josefina Bakhita. A los nueve años unos hombres la secuestraron y la vendieron como esclava. Pasó por diferentes amos, que la hacían trabajar sin descansar. Vivió grandes sufrimientos -144 cicatrices quedaron marcadas en su cuerpo- hasta que fue regalada a una familia en Venecia. Bakhita logra la libertad y quiere dar sentido a su vida. Conoce a unas religiosas que le hablan de Cristo. Fue muy feliz el día de su bautismo, porque tras tantas cadenas y penas, dijo: “¡Aquí llego a convertirme en una de las hijas de Dios!”. Durante los cincuenta años siguientes fue una monja que trabajó limpiando, cocinando y cuidando a los más pobres.
Bakhita aprendió a conocer al Dios de los cristianos y reconoció que Él “había permanecido en su corazón”. Fue el Señor quien le dio fuerzas para soportar la dura esclavitud. ¿Confiamos en las situaciones difíciles, en las cuaresmas no deseadas, en Él?
“La esperanza que en ella había nacido –dice el Papa- y la había redimido no podía guardársela para sí sola; esta esperanza debía llegar a muchos, llegar a todos”.
Comprometámonos en esta cuaresma a ser testigos fieles de Aquel en quien creemos y sostiene nuestras vidas.
