De mujeres y de trenes
Desde el pasado trece de junio Málaga disfruta del soterramiento de las vías del tren, que partían en dos la zona oeste de la ciudad. Con ese motivo el organismo gestor ferroviario (ADIF) ha sustituido el nombre del antiguo apeadero de “San Andrés”, en el barrio de su nombre, por el de “Victoria Kent”.
– Vaya, pensará algún malpensado, ya estamos enredando con el laicismo excluyente. (Además, por si fuera poco, la barriada de San Andrés recibió su nombre porque alojó a muchos chabolistas de la playa de su nombre, lugar de devoción progresista, pues allí fue fusilado, en 1831, el liberal general Torrijos)
Cualquiera que sea el motivo del cambio de nombre, algunos rasgos de la nueva titular del apeadero se prestan a la reflexión. Victoria Kent (1892-1987) fue una ilustre malagueña, abogada desde 1925 (¡entonces!), diputada de la Segunda República, Directora de Prisiones, exiliada en Francia y Méjico…Cuando hoy vemos a muchas mujeres incorporadas a las más variadas actividades profesionales, es bueno valorar a aquellas pioneras que abrieron el camino. Esto nos alegra por igual a laicistas y creyentes.
Un dato curioso: Victoria se mostró contraria a que se otorgase a las mujeres el derecho a votar. Pensaba que aquéllas no estaban preparadas políticamente, votarían influidas por la Iglesia y su voto sería conservador. Consecuencia: derrota de las izquierdas. Hoy, por fortuna, la Iglesia no dirige el voto de nadie, muchas mujeres tienen suficiente preparación y la derecha no es un freno social. Son cambios para bien, en líneas generales.
Como directora de prisiones Victoria Kent se esforzó por humanizar las tremendas cárceles de la época, no sólo eliminando las vejaciones que sufrían los internos sino intentando convertir aquéllas en lugares de recuperación social de las personas. Ésta es, justamente, la principal preocupación de tantos católicos que trabajan en la Pastoral Penitenciaria de la Iglesia. Nuestra malagueña estaría satisfecha al comprobar que el ámbito carcelario es uno de los lugares donde existe una mejor colaboración entre la Iglesia y el Estado, para el bien de las personas.
