El cielo puede esperar
“El cielo puede esperar”, es una comedia de 1978 dirigida por Warren Beatty y Buck Henry. Pero nada tiene que ver con lo que yo quiero decir hoy. Sólo coincide (¡pura coincidencia!) en el título.
Creemos que el cielo será el término final de nuestro viaje, acabado el recorrido de esta vida. El cielo que no será otra cosa que el encuentro con Dios.
Pero para que pueda llegar ese encuentro, para disfrutar de ese cielo, es condición necesaria pasar por la muerte. ¡Y eso es otro cantar!
Pocas personas he conocido que deseen morir cuanto antes para encontrarse con Dios. Algunos desean morir por huir de una vida dura, difícil, inviable, acabar con una enfermedad terminal y olorosa. Pero no hablo de esos casos y esas motivaciones. Parece que santa Teresa (y posiblemente algunos santos más) sí que tenía ese deseo vehemente del encuentro con Dios, para lo cual deseaba morir. Recordemos aquellos hermosos versos:
“Y tan alta vida espero / que muero porque no muero”.
Se dice, y así lo creemos, que gozar del cielo será gozar de la plena felicidad. Pero es curioso y altamente sorprendente, que casi nadie tiene prisa por alcanzar esa felicidad, aunque la vida que lleven sea dura y fatigosa. Pocos mueren, porque no mueren, aunque tan alta vida esperen. No se dice con estas palabras, pero eso es lo que se quiere decir, que “el cielo puede esperar”.
Me pregunto, dónde está la raíz de esa incoherencia. Porque incoherencia es, desear ser feliz, y no desear serlo cuanto antes. Es muy probable que la raíz o razón fundamental de esta manera de pensar y sentir esté en el miedo a lo desconocido, lo sabido sólo por referencias, aunque esa referencia venga del mismo Jesús. Todo el tema tiene relación con la fe, y la fe no es evidencia; es más bien oscuridad, lanzarse sin paracaídas; aceptar lo que Dios nos dice o promete. Un Dios a quien no conocemos, no visualizamos, no comprendemos. Todo eso supone un riesgo. Se arriesga la seguridad fundada en nuestros argumentos humanos, se arriesga la confianza plena y absoluta, se arriesga el que Otro disponga por nosotros, aunque no sin nosotros.
Por otra parte, esa falta de seguridad plena, le lleva a la persona a aferrarse a lo que tiene, a la pequeña felicidad intermitente, que es segura porque la palpa y experimenta. Aunque existe la promesa -y la tenemos- de una mayor felicidad, sin embargo, exige una fe grande que genere confianza sin límites. Hablando de tejas abajo, podríamos aplicar aquel refrán que dice:”Más vale pájaro en mano, que ciento volando”. Somos tan increíblemente prácticos, pero, al mismo tiempo, tan increíblemente dubitativos, que nos cuesta fiarnos ciegamente. En realidad, lo que verdaderamente nos falta, a mi entender, es Fe.
