Hay cosas que no se saben o que no se quieren saber. Unos porque no tienen acceso a las cifras, y otros porque prefieren hacer que lo ignoran (y entre estos últimos están los que no quieren reconocer los méritos de la Iglesia en las ayudas sociales). Por eso es bueno, de vez en cuando, refrescar las memorias. Estas son algunas de las cosas que la Iglesia puede presentar a favor de la sociedad en general:
- 5.141 Centros de enseñanza; 990.774 alumnos. (Ahorran al Estado 3 millones de euros por centro al año)
- 107 hospitales (Ahorran al Estado 50 millones de euros por hospital al año)
- 1.004 centros; entre ambulatorios, dispensarios, asilos, centros de minusválidos, de transeúntes y de enfermos terminales de SIDA; un total de 51.312 camas (Ahorran al Estado 4 millones de euros por centro al año)
- Gasto de Cáritas al año: 155 millones de euros (salidos del bolsillo de los cristianos españoles.) Gasto de Manos Unidas: 43 millones de euros (del mismo bolsillo) Gasto de las Obras Misionales Pontificias (Domund): 21 millones de euros (¿Imaginan de dónde sale?)
- 365 Centros de reeducación para marginados sociales: ex-prostitutas, ex-presidiarios y ex-toxicómanos; 53.140 personas. (Ahorran al Estado, medio millón de euros por centro)
- 937 orfanatos; 10.835 niños abandonados. (Ahorran al Estado 100.000 euros por centro)
- El 80 % del gasto de conservación y mantenimiento del Patrimonio histórico-artístico. (Se ha calculado un ahorro aproximado al Estado de entre 32.000 y 36.000 millones de euros al año)
A todo esto tenemos que sumar que casi la totalidad de personas que trabajan o colaboran con Manos Unidas, Cáritas, etc… son voluntarios ‘sin sueldo’. Aunque a algunos les extrañe, es cierto, hay personas que trabajan por los demás sin pedir a cambio un salario, realizando su labor para ayudar a los demás sin pedir nada a cambio. ¿En cuánto podríamos cuantificar su trabajo? Esta es la razón por la cual el Estado sigue dando algunas ayudas a la Iglesia Católica; porque le sale muy barato. Lo asombroso es que nadie (o muy pocos) saben de esta contribución de la Iglesia española.
Como contrapartida: ¿Cuántos comedores para indigentes han abierto los sindicatos? ¿Cuántos hospitales para enfermos terminales y de SIDA mantienen abiertos los partidos políticos? ¿Adónde puede ir un necesitado a pedir un bocadillo o una ayuda para seguir subsistiendo en una situación de precariedad?
Y por fin: ¿por qué no se da publicidad en la prensa, radio y televisión? ¿A quién le interesa ocultarlo?
