¿Qué es la vida?
Dice el refrán que “cada uno cuenta la feria, según le va en ella”. Y es una verdad como un templo. Ante cualquier realidad o acontecimiento, distintas personas opinarán de distintas formas, porque depende de muchos factores. Esto ocurre, entre otros temas, con la idea que se tiene sobre la vida. No todos tienen el mismo concepto sobre ella. He oído decir más de una vez:”esta vida es un asco”; otros dicen:”amo la vida, porque es estupenda, a pesar de sus dificultades”. Algunos tratan de vivirla a tope, otros la soportan con estoicismo. Incluso hay quien se priva de ella voluntariamente, como es el caso de los suicidios.
Mi reflexión va a partir, hoy, de un personaje muy interesante, Segismundo, de la obra “La vida es sueño”, de Calderón de la Barca. Segismundo está encarcelado; y al final de un monólogo que no tiene desperdicio, quejándose de su falta de libertad, habla de cómo ve él la vida. Calderón, lo expresa en versos, como toda la obra:
“¿Qué es la vida? Un frenesí. / ¿Qué es la vida? Una ilusión,
una sombra, una ficción, / y el mayor bien es pequeño:
que toda la vida es sueño, / y los sueños, sueños son”.
Su primera afirmación es que la vida es un frenesí, es decir una locura, un delirio. Cierto; algunos viven alocadamente, sin cordura, carentes de responsabilidades, incluso en un delirio constante a causa de los alucinógenos que perturban la mente y embotan la voluntad.
La afirmación segunda es que la vida es una ilusión. Ésta se puede tomar en un doble sentido: como algo que se desea mucho y se consigue, y como algo que es irreal y se intenta vivir, pero no se puede porque es inalcanzable.
Pues bien, hay quien pasa la vida ilusionado, porque todo le gusta, todo le satisface. Y otros pasan la vida buscando algo que no deja de ser una ilusión que no existe. El primero es feliz, el segundo no lo puede ser porque nunca se cumple lo que desea.
En tercer lugar, Segismundo dice que la vida es una sombra, una ficción. Pasa tan rápida como una sombra que no es nada; o nos la imaginamos de una manera, y resulta que no es así.
Por fin, se dice que la vida es un sueño. Los sueños duran poco, se evaporan enseguida. Así es la vida, pasa corriendo. Cuántas veces decimos: ¡qué rápido pasa el tiempo! Es la vida la que pasa.
Pero Segismundo era un hombre desesperados, privado de libertad, con una existencia desgraciada, en soledad. Su visión de la vida es negativa, poco atrayente, sin esperanza…
Pero, no. La vida tiene mucho de positivo, de luz, de alegría, aunque haya sombras de vez en cuando. ¡Qué verdad es aquello de que “en este mundo traidor, nada es verdad ni es mentira. Todo es del color del cristal con que se mira”.
Algunos la ven con gafas oscuras, y todo lo ven negro; otros lo ven de color de rosa, y todo es hermoso.
De todas formas la vida es como el prólogo de un libro. El prólogo no es lo importante; sólo te da algunas pistas de lo que puede ser el libro. Pero lo importante es el libro.
La Vida tiene dos partes; la primera, la de este mundo es corta (como suele ser el prólogo) y no nos da una idea demasiado clara de la segunda parte (la Vida Eterna). Pero es necesario vivir bien la primera, porque nos va dando pistas y nos va preparando para la segunda, que es el encuentro con Dios, autor del libro.
