La fácil, y difícil, Oración
He oído decir, no pocas veces, a distintas personas, frases como estas:”Yo no sé rezar”; “me gustaría aprender a rezar”;”intento rezar, a veces, pero no me sale, porque no sé cómo hacerlo”; “me gustaría rezar, pero no sé si lo hago bien o no”, etc.
Todas esas personas expresan el deseo de rezar, y al mismo tiempo la imposibilidad o la dificultad para hacerlo. Y me pregunto: ¿lo intentan?
Y yo pienso que si no lo han intentado, nunca podrán saber rezar. Si el niño pequeño no empieza a intentar a hablar, ejerciendo los músculos de su garganta y de su boca, nunca aprenderá a hablar. Si lo intenta, acabará por dar con los sonidos que expresen lo que quiere decir; primero, con dificultad e imperfectamente; más tarde con claridad y sin esfuerzo. Porque a hablar se aprende hablando. Y lo mismo podíamos afirmar del andar, del estudiar, y de cualquier oficio o actividad que no se ha hecho nunca.
Hablar de la oración es fácil; no lo es tanto el orar. Lo mismo que es más fácil hablar de Dios que hablar con Dios. Podemos empezar hablando de la necesidad de la oración, de la dificultad que conlleva y de las condiciones que requiere. Hay algunas cosas en la vida que son gratuitas, pero no porque no tengan valor; no todo lo que es gratuito es porque carezca de ello. La amistad es gratuita, aunque es muy valiosa; el servicio a los demás (el voluntariado) es gratuito, y es muy valioso; el amor es gratuito, y también es valiosísimo. Pues bien, podríamos decir que la ORACIÓN es gratuita, pero tiene un precio alto. El precio es el tiempo que se le dedica en un mundo tan ajetreado y de tantas prisas; es afrontar nuestra propia desnudez y debilidad ante Dios, en un mundo donde todos queremos aparentar como fuertes; es saber escuchar, en un mundo donde lo que priva es hablar sin escuchar.
Cuando hablo de oración, me refiero a un encuentro, querido y buscado, con Dios. Y eso exige: un tiempo reposado, un entrar en las profundidades de uno mismo y de Dios, un aparcar las prisas y un montón de preocupaciones banales. Hay que llegar a la oración muy “ligero de equipaje”, para poder hablar sólo de amor con Aquel que sabemos que nos ama”.
Decía que la oración es necesaria. El gran Papa, Pio XII, decía que “la oración es la respiración del alma”. Y así como no se puede vivir sin respirar, así, tampoco podemos tener una vida espiritual seria, si no rezamos. Al mundo le falta consistencia: es como un cuerpo sin esqueleto, que se desmorona; no se tiene en pie porque le falta oración.
Hoy día, la oración personal profunda, esa que lleva a la experiencia de Dios, aquella de la que Jesús dice en el Evangelio: “cuando reces, entra en tu cuarto, cierra la puerta, y habla a tu Padre”, está en baja. Entra en tu interior y cierra la puerta a otras cosas que en ese momento no deben contar. No queda ni tiempo, ni tranquilidad para ello. Eso es lo que Pío XII llamaba: “la herejía de la acción”.
