Homilía de los santos
Esta fiesta de “Todos los Santos”, a mí me resulta muy simpática. Cada día celebramos algunos santos (unos más conocidos y otros menos) ; pero hoy celebramos a todos juntos. Podríamos decir que es “el día de la santidad acumulada”. ¡Cuánta santidad en tantas personas, de todas las clases sociales, de todas las edades, de todas las razas, y de todos los colores! Y ¡cuántas formas de santidad, tan distintas, aunque con un denominador común, que es la fidelidad a Dios, y el amor a los demás! Sin esto no hay santidad. Porque son los mandamientos principales, como dijo Jesús a los fariseos, ante la pregunta sobre cuál era el mandamiento principal de la Ley (Mt. 22, 39); el domingo pasado se leía este pasaje del Evangelio. Sin esos dos amores (a Dios y al prójimo), no puede haber santidad, porque es el mismo amor, con distinto destinatario. Decía que me resultaba un día simpático, pero además, me da mucha alegría al comprobar la cantidad innumerable de personas que han sido capaces de vivir, a su modo, la santidad; que es lo mismo que vivir según la voluntad de Dios, a través de los siglos. Por otra parte, es un día de esperanza, porque si otros han sido capaces, con la ayuda de Dios, de vivir de esa manera, pienso que cualquiera de nosotros podemos también hacerlo.
El mismo Jesús nos dijo:”Sed santos, como el Padre celestial es santo”. Si Jesús lo pide, significa que es posible. Jesús no pide nada imposible. Ser santo es dejarse conducir por el Espíritu Santo, para, de esa manera, cumplir la voluntad de Dios, viviendo de acuerdo con el Evangelio. El Papa Benedicto XVI explicó, en su día, que la santidad “no consiste en realizar acciones extraordinarias, sino en unirse a Cristo, en vivir sus misterios”. La santidad no es algo reservado a algunas personas escogidas; todos, sin excepción, estamos llamados a la santidad. La santidad consiste, en vivir con convicción la realidad del amor de Dios, a pesar de las dificultades de la vida, y de la propia historia. Las palabras de Jesús, en el “sermón de la Montaña”, que aparece en el capítulo 5º del Evangelio según San Mateo, son una buena guía para llegar a ser santo. Y vale la pena leerlo de vez en cuando.
Me gustaría recordar a tantos santas y santos de a pie que no están en los altares y que dan su vida diariamente por los demás, santos anónimos que incluso muchos de nosotros conocemos.
