Mi gato
Tengo un gato (Micifú) que no maúlla, ni se escapa por las noches para rondar a la luna. Encima de la repisa de mi habitación, duerme constantemente, sin molestar, sin decir aquí estoy yo, con su ronroneo. Sin embargo, yo sé que está ahí. Guarda un secreto que a nadie dirá nunca, porque no abre la boca ni para respirar. Ese secreto, que yo solo comparto con él, es el recuerdo de una persona querida, que tuvo la idea acertada de hacerme ese regalo de peluche, blanco, con un lunar grande y negro en la frente. Solo tiene un valor sentimental. Cuando le miro me trae recuerdos, un tanto lejanos, de amistad, de convivencia, de generosidad, de agradecimiento. Por eso le he puesto un sobrenombre. En realidad se llama “Micifú”, como todos los gatos del universo; pero yo le llamo “Generoso”, porque me da más que lo que me pide. Yo le doy una mirada rápida, de vez en cuando, pero él me devuelve el cumplido, con recuerdos que llegan al corazón.
Inmóvil en el rincón de la estantería, rodeado de libros, que nunca leerá, está, silencioso, mi peluche con su hociquito, sus orejitas, sus bigotes, y su rabito que debiera ser juguetón, pero nunca lo será. De vez en cuando, le quito el polvo, y parece que lo agradece, porque no se queja de la aspereza del cepillo.
Alguna vez tuve la tentación de desprenderme de él; sobre todo en alguno de los traslados, cuando tienes que cargar con tantas cosas. Pero siempre me daba la impresión de que sus ojos verdes de cristal, me miraban implorando clemencia, y echándome en cara todos los recuerdos que me había traído desde aquel día lejano que llegó a mí. Y nunca lo pude abandonar. Cuando yo ya no esté para mirarlo, alguien se desprenderá de él, y lo echará a la basura, lleno de polvo y descolorido. “Sic transit gloria mundi”. (Así pasa la gloria de este mundo).
