Un Papa en el escondite

El 28 de febrero de 2013, el entones Papa, Benedicto XVI, sorprendió al mundo con una decisión, que pocas veces se había dado en la historia de la Iglesia: su renuncia al cargo, y su retiro fuera del Vaticano.
Motivos de salud, fundamentalmente, y acosado por las dificultades y problemas que aquejaban a la Iglesia, no se sabe en qué proporción unas u otras razones, le llevaron a tomar esa decisión inapelable.
Hubo interpretaciones de todos los colores. No podía ser menos. Algunos, los menos, le tachacaron de cobarde, de poca confianza en la Providencia, etc. Siempre hay quien ve el lado peor de las decisiones, aunque no tengan argumentos. Pero la mayoría lo aceptó como un paso valiente y lleno de humildad.
Dicen que Dios escribe derecho con líneas torcidas; y así, la dimisión de Benedicto, nos trajo el aire fresco de otro Papa, que desde el comienzo de su pontificado, asombró al mundo, creyente e in-creyente.
El dimisionario, Benedicto, dijo que se retiraba al silencio, sin tratar de influir, para nada, en su sucesor, ni juzgar sus decisiones. Y así ha sido. Se ha mantenido, en su oración, escribiendo, y preparándose, como dijo él, para cuando el Señor le quiera llamar. Un claro ejemplo de prudencia, humildad y fidelidad.
Acaba de salir un libro sobre él, que según anuncian, desvelan anécdotas de su juventud, y los motivos que él mismo da sobre su dimisión. Será interesante leerlo.
A Benedicto XVI se le recordará como un gran intelectual, un buen Papa, y un hombre con una humildad poco corriente. ¡Gracias Benedicto!
