Jesús se invita solo
“Entró en Jericó y la fue atravesando, cuando un hombre llamado Zaqueo, jefe de recaudadores y muy rico, intentaba ver quién era Jesús; pero a causa del gentío, no lo conseguía, porque era bajo de estatura. Se adelantó de una carrera y se subió a un sicómoro para verlo, pues iba a pasar por allí. Cuando Jesús llegó al sitio, alzó la vista y le dijo: —Zaqueo, baja aprisa, pues hoy tengo que hospedarme en tu casa. Bajó a toda prisa y lo recibió muy contento. Al verlo, murmuraban todos porque entraba a hospedarse en casa de un pecador. Pero Zaqueo se puso en pie y dijo al Señor: —Mira, Señor, la mitad de mis bienes se la doy a los pobres, y a quien haya defraudado le restituyo cuatro veces más. Jesús le dijo: —Hoy ha llegado la salvación a esta casa, pues también él es hijo de Abrahán. Porque este Hombre vino a buscar y salvar lo perdido” (Lc. 19, 1-10).
Este pasaje evangélico es, a mi juicio, uno de los más hermosos que se encuentran en las páginas del Evangelio. Pone de relieve, mucha gente que le atosiga, con los apóstoles que no dejarían de preguntarle cosas. Y tiene la sensibilidad de fijarse en las ramas de un árbol, en un hombrecillo, medio avergonzado. “Mateo, baja, que hoy quiero hospedarme en tu casa”. Durante la comida, ¿qué es lo que le diría Jesús, qué le diría a aquel hombre importante socialmente, que éste cambió de pensar, y comenzó a actuar de manera diferente a como lo había estado haciendo toda su vida? Según el evangelista, aquel hombre, llamado Zaqueo, era un ladrón de guante blanco, que se aprovechaba de la gente para hacer su fortuna. Y he aquí que al final de la comida, se levanta y, a modo de brindis, dice en voz alta para que se enteren todos los comensales. La mitad de mis bienes (que eran muchos) lo doy a los pobres; y si de alguno me he aprovechado (ya lo creo que sí) le restituiré cuatro veces más. ¡Eso sí que era una verdadera conversión. Las cosas tienen una importancia especial cuando tocan el dinero. ¿Qué iba a decir Jesús? Pocas cosas; porque era demasiado evidente el cambio de este hombre. Dijo: “Hoy ha sido la salvación de esta casa, porque yo he venido para salvar lo que estaba perdido”. Ya lo creo que había entrado la salvación. Había habido una verdadera conversión. A partir de entonces las cosas cambiarían.
Es peligroso abrir la puerta, de par en par, a Jesús, a su proyecto. Si se le deja entrar, forzosamente cambiarán las cosas. Dejémosle que pida; que nos hable como a Zaqueo. Que no se trata solo de dinero, no. Que hay, probablemente, muchas cosas en nuestra vida, que merecen ser cambiadas o revisadas. Seguro que en aquella casa de Zaqueo, entró la alegría y la paz. Seguro que nuestra vida tendría un horizonte más abierto y esa misma alegría interior se instalaría permanentemente en nuestro corazón.
