Creí que la historia no se repetiría, la catástrofe fue tan mayúscula que pensé seríamos más sensatos, pero parece que no se aprende y la historia se repite. Hablo de los campos de refugiados que viví desde 1994 a 1996. Los medias de todo tipo se encargaron de enseñarnos las imágenes de lo que ocurría en la región de los Grandes Lagos, más en concreto en la zona del Kivu, República Democrática del Congo, y el mundo reaccionó.
8 de junio del 2009. Volví a Goma, acompañado de unos curas vascos, que también habían trabajado en la zona. Hoy Goma es una ciudad tomada por las fuerzas de Naciones Unidas, para preservarla del saqueo y vandalismo de tanto grupo miliar que desde el 96 hacen la guerra en la zona, una guerra económica y salvaje 100 x 100 y de la que tan poco se habla; una guerra que se ha cobrado ya la muerte de 5 millones de personas, ha desplazado de su tierras a otros tantos y está provocando el gran saqueo de todas las enormes riquezas naturales de la zona; “a río revuelto, ganancias de pescadores”.
Goma es un hervidero enorme de muchos miles de personas .hablan de cuatro millones- que han huido de sus tierras y a los que hay que, todos los días, alimentar, dar de beber, sanidad, higiene, escuelas para los niños…, desplazados que buscan un lugar más seguro donde vivir, un desorden, un caos, calles deshechas, suciedad; una ciudad que aún no ha podido recuperarse de la erupción del volcán Nyirangongo, enero del 2002.
Queríamos visitar los campos de desplazados, entrar en contactos con ellos y conocer “sur place” la situación humanitaria. Pensé que la logística en los campos habría mejorado y me encontré todo lo contrario, hacinados, muy sucio, con espacios insuficientes para las familias o grupos. Llevan tres años muchos de ellos, son congoleños en su propia tierra y la pregunta que surge a bote pronto ¿qué puede estar pasando para que estos muchos miles de personas se nieguen en rotundo a volver a sus tierras, donde ya han perdido sus casas, sus pequeñas parcelas, sus pobres posesiones, familia…?
Tiene seis años, cuando tenía tres la violaron, violaron también a su madre que a continuación mataron, en presencia de su hija, el padre al enterarse rechazó a la hija, no ha querido saber nada de ella; la conocí en el orfanato; la pequeña niña desde entonces no habla, es la imagen de la tristeza.

Nos llamamos humanos, civilizados., pero que nos borren tales nombres si nos comportamos o aceptamos que se comporten así o nos callamos.
Este viaje me ha llegado al alma, me ha tocado en lo más profundo y no quiero olvidarlo y quisiera que este mensaje llegue lejos, que se comunique, que si hay justicia caiga sobre los responsables de toda esta salvajería, que no tiene otro nombre, que no son simples soldados ni gente trastornada, no.
