Ser payaso
Siempre he tenido una afición, una admiración,
y un cariño por los “payasos”. Y la verdad es que no sé de donde me viene ese ramalazo circense. Tal vez un sicoanálisis hecho por algún discípulo de Freud me diese alguna pista, Pero la verdad es que no me interesa en absoluto. Durante muchos años he tenido mi habitación compartida con muchos payasos de todos los colores y hechuras. Era una debilidad. Conservo fotografías mías, vestido o disfrazado de payaso, y rodeado por muchos de ellos. Pero todo eso no pasa de ser anecdótico. Hay algo más profunda que me lleva a tener cariño a la profesión.
Los payasos, en el circo, son los más esperados por los niños; son los que hacen reír; son la parte más humana del espectáculo.
Yo sé que detrás de esas caras pintarrajeadas, que desfiguran las verdaderas facciones de la persona que está detrás, se esconden verdaderos dramas personales, familiares y sociales. Un payaso nunca es lo que parece. Esté de buen humor, decaído, triste, preocupado, e, incluso, deprimido, siempre sale a la pista a intentar hacer pasar un rato agradable a los espectadores. Y todos ríen y aplauden, porque es un momento en que se olvidan las penas, si las hay, los problemas, si existen, el mal humor si ha hecho nido en el corazón. El único que no lo deja en su camerino, sino que carga con ello durante la función, es el payaso. Pero no se le nota. Esa es la grandeza de estos hombres y mujeres.
Y si la trapecista ha caído sobre la pista y se crea una situación de intranquilidad por su suerte, el payaso será el encargado de salir, con el corazón destrozado, para hacer olvidar ese momento y salvar la situación.
Ojalá que en la vida de cada día, y en las circunstancias difíciles, supiésemos actuar como el payaso, tratando de poner optimismo, quitando hierro a algunas situaciones dolorosas, y poniendo en los demás una sonrisa, si no es posible hacer nacer la risa.
Aunque parezca intranscendente la actuación del payaso, no es nada fácil. Es olvidarse de sí mismo, de sus problemas, de sus propios gustos, de su dolor de cabeza, para pensar en la felicidad de los demás. ¿Y eso no es una práctica evangélica? Por eso me entusiasman los payasos. Alguno me queda, todavía, por las estanterías.
