Benedicto XVI, en “Luz del mundo”

luz del mundoHace poco que ha visto la luz este “librito” de 227 páginas, y ya la curiosidad de ver qué es lo que dice el papa en una entrevista tan larga, está haciendo que muchos lo tomen como objeto de lectura obligada. No cabe duda de que todo, o casi todo de lo que diga Benedicto XVI, suscita interés, porque todavía se está esperando de este hombre de Dios, inteligente y con una larga experiencia de iglesia, algo llamativo sobre el pensamiento tradicional de la iglesia o sobre las estructuras vaticanas vigentes. Se siguen esperando cambios que no acaban de llegar.

Otra de las cosas que está también influyendo para su lectura, son los llamativos titulares de prensa, y demás medios de comunicación, sobre el traído y llevado “preservativo”. Que si el papa ha dicho, que si ha dejado de decir; que si es algo nuevo en la doctrina de la iglesia, que si es lo de siempre pero dicho con más claridad. Lo cierto es que la entrevista es muy amplia y se tocan una gran cantidad de temas. Son preguntas importantes, a veces delicadas, a las que el papa va respondiendo con una gran serenidad y clarividencia.

Yo lo he leído con curiosidad e interés, por ver qué novedades encontraba en el pensamiento actual de Benedicto XVI. Y la verdad es que no es fácil encontrar cosas nuevas en su pensamiento y en pensamiento tradicional de la iglesia.

Pero dicho esto, también debo decir que lo he leído con gusto. Vale la pena ver con qué serenidad, con qué perspicacia y con qué sinceridad contesta el Pontífice a las preguntas, a veces un tanto comprometidas. Se descubre en sus respuestas a la persona inteligente, al pensador lúcido, al hombre sereno con el aplomo que dan los años.

Uno podría esperar o desear otras respuestas en algunos casos. Pero es él quien contesta; y contesta con honradez, según sus categorías teológicas y su larga experiencia en una iglesia no siempre plural.

Cuando el teólogo y hombre del vaticano fue elegido papa, muchos tuvieron la esperanza de que se podrían logar importantes cambios en la organización y estilo de la Iglesia; otros, por el contrario, no esperaban gran cosa, dada la edad y la admiración que el elegido sentía por su predecesor Juan Pablo II.

Algunos, tal vez pecando de ingenuidad, seguimos teniendo la esperanza de que en algún momento, sea capaz de gestos más decisivos, más valientes, más evangélicos. A nuestro papa actual, le sobra santidad, le sobra inteligencia, y no le falta un profundo conocimiento de la realidad. Tres circunstancias, que unidas podrían darnos una grata sorpresa.

Yo creo que lo único que pudiera faltarle sería el valor de saltarse tantos obstáculos que le impiden ser libre a la hora de actuar: el círculo de los monseñores vaticanos, el miedo a errar, la tradición tan aferrada como si tantas cosas fueran dogmas de fe, y el miedo escénico, del que no es fácil librarse.
