He tenido la suerte en el mes de abril de haber escuchado a José Emilio Pacheco, de haberlo visto de cerca, y reconozco que algo me ha transmitido, no sé exactamente qué, pero me dio la impresión de ser una persona cercana, sencilla, sonriente, que hablaba con un rápido mexicano al que hay que hacerse el oído, que se encontraba a gusto en el aula magna rodeado de profesores y alumnos; vi por la facultad al mismo hombre que me habían transmitido sus poemas, quizás ha sido eso lo que me gustó.
Días antes había tenido lugar la ceremonia del Premio Cervantes, se repite la anécdota de los pantalones en todos los medios que él se toma como una prueba contra la vanidad, siempre es bueno estar alerta, pero la verdad es que las palabras de su discurso no transmitieron el ser de un hombre arrogante y presuntuoso, sino bastante al contrario. Habló de sus primeras andanzas infantiles con Don Quijote y ya ahí se atisbó la vertiente social que no parece haberle abandonado: Leo más tarde versiones infantiles del gran libro y encuentro que los demás leen otra historia. Para mí el Quijote no es cosa de risa. Me parece muy triste cuanto le sucede. Nadie puede sacarme de esta visión doliente. No se olvidó tampoco de recordar las penurias del propio Cervantes, al que no le hubiese venido nada mal el premio, pero ni al tratarse de este premio se quedó en el siglo XVII: la crueldad, los terremotos, la miseria creciente y la inusitada violencia de este 2010 fueron, siempre en una clave esperanzada, el final de su intervención.
Más allá del discurso, que nos acerca sintéticamente a él, son sus poemas los que más hablan. Su literatura es cotidiana, simple y profunda, con un lenguaje accesible –él ya no quiere palabras que no entiende nadie, cada cosa tiene su momento, ha sabido verlo-, y con temas que interesan a todos: el hombre, el otro, el tiempo, la historia, la situación social… Los elementos de la naturaleza salen por todas partes, su poesía se vuelve vocera de la tierra y a la vez de su propia tierra, le interesa el pasado y el presente de Hispanoamérica y especialmente de México, pero con un universalismo que permite al lector entrar en las situaciones que se describen, consigue que disfrutemos, sintamos y nos cuestionemos, invitando a la verdadera humanidad de comprender al otro en la diferencia.
La entrega del Premio Cervantes pone momentáneamente de moda al autor que lo recibe, sobre todo a aquellos más desconocidos, y pienso que cualquier excusa es buena con tal de que nos invite a leer algo, ojalá no sea sólo momentáneamente. Este es mi caso con este autor y me alegro por todo lo que llevo leído estas semanas, está siendo un buen descubrimiento a seguir difundiendo y creo que lo mejor para eso es terminar igual que comencé, con palabras suyas:
