El discurso del rey
Si nos fijamos en el bagaje de premios que lleva acumulados, El discurso del rey se postula como una de las grandes películas del año; y, ciertamente, cuenta con una serie de atractivos y virtudes que, a buen seguro, harán que el buen sabor de boca que deja en el espectador perdure en la memoria.
La película lleva a la pantalla algunos años de la vida del rey Jorge VI de Inglaterra, segundo en la línea de sucesión y acomplejado por una tartamudez que le impedía estar a la altura de las obligaciones que conllevaba su posición. Cuando está a punto de arrojar la toalla conoce a un hombre que, con métodos poco ortodoxos y bastante descaro, asegura que puede ayudarle a superar su problema. Este hecho, que en principio no despertaría gran interés en la mayoría de espectadores, es presentado como una historia de amistad y de superación personal que, sin renunciar al rigor histórico, es capaz de cautivar por su sencillez y verdad.
El guión, que fue concebido como una obra de teatro, mantiene un excelente ritmo que en ningún momento decae, entre otras razones, por saber conjugar comedia y drama con total naturalidad; y las interpretaciones de todo el reparto, uno de los estandartes de la película, destacan por su sobriedad. Asimismo la ambientación, la música y la fotografía contribuyen a que la cinta desprenda un elegante aroma a “cine de qualité”, aunque, por supuesto, dando contenido a la forma.
El resultado es una obra para casi todos los públicos. Dejando a un lado el sector más infantil no se me ocurre nadie que no pudiera disfrutar con esta película. Quizás sea porque todos, al igual que el rey, hemos necesitado de un buen maestro, que es aquel que no se conforma con “limitarse a la técnica”, sino que lleva a cabo un magisterio integral. Sólo así se puede ayudar a vencer ciertos temores y permitir que salga a la luz aquello que somos en potencia, que aún no es, pero que estamos llamados a ser.
